IMPROVEMENT IN GLOVEf-FASTENERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 144,197, dated November 4, 1873 application tiled July 28, 1873.

To all whomt may concern:

Be it known that I, LETITIA Fnnars, of San Francisco city and county, State of California, have invented an Improved Glove-Fastener; andI do hereby declare the following description and accompanying drawings are sufficient to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which it most nearly appertains to make and use my said invention or improvement without further invention or experiment.

My improved glove-fastener consists of two small but neat buckles, each of which is provided with a hinged covering-plate, the two plates being connected by a chain, so that when the buckles are attached to the opposite edges of the glove-opening the chain may be drawn through a peculiar hole in one of the coveringplates, and thus fasten the glove snugly upon the wrist, and adapt itself to its shape.

Referring to the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a front view of my glove-fastener as attached to a glove. Figs. 2 and 3 are detailed views of one-half of the fastener. Fig. 4 is an edge view of the whole fastener.

A represents the glove. The glove-fastener consistsof two small buckles, b b. A coverin g-plate, C, is hinged to the crossbar of each buckle, so that it can be closed down upon the buckle when desired. These coverii'lgplates can be ornamented or engraved with some tasteful design or left plain, the same as any other article of jewelry. One end of a small link-chain, d, is secured to the edge of one of the covering-plates opposite the middle of the buckle, and passed through an opening, in the edge of the opposite plate. This opening is made, in the form of a key-hole, in a pro` jecting portion, f, of the covering-plate, so that the chain can be drawn through the largest portion of the opening and secured at any point by drawing one of the links of the i chain edgewise into the narrow portion of the key-hole, in the usual way. A projection similar to j' can be formed on the iirst-mentioned plate, and the end of the chain attached to the projection, in which a hole can be made. In applying my glove-fastening, the coveringplates are turned' back so as to expose the buckles. A small portion of the edge of the glove is then drawn through the buckles and secured by their tines it, in the ordinary manner of applying a buckle. The covering-plates are then turned down so as to conceal the buckles, and the glove tightened upon the wrist, `as above described.

rlhe portion of the edge of the glove required to provide a hold for the buckles is so small that no wrinkle will be made, and,I even if a larger portion be taken, the elastic nature of the glove material will prevent any unsightly puckering. The covering-plates serve to conceal the buckles, and provide a surface which can be ornamented or engraved at pleasure.

I thus provide an effective glove-fastening, which can be applied to the glove-opening at any point and removed when desired, thus forming a neat article of jewelry.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, an'd desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
