IMPROVEMENT IN BRACELETS, &c.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 193,701, dated July 31, 1877; application filed May 12, 1877.

To all whom it mag concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES H. GRAEF, of Edgewater, in the county of Richmond and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Bracelet, of which the following is a specification:

In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a side view, and Fig. 2 a vertical transverse section, of my improved bracelet.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

The invention has reference to improvements in that class of rubber, horn. and other articles which are made with a natural spring, so as to return to their normal position on being applied, the improvement being intended to embellish said articles without weakening them ordetracting from their ready use and the invention consists of a bracelet, childs' long comb, or other article of springy nature, having a broken-out ornamental band of suitable metal attached at the ends only, so that the band gives on spreading the article, and resumes its snugly-fitting position on the article without getting torn and without injuring the article.

In the drawing, A represents a bracelet or similar article of hard rubber, horn, or other material which is required to have a natural spring when being applied for use.

To the face of the bracelet or other article is applied, so as to fit snugly thereto, abroken- T out metallic band, B, of any suitable design or ornamentation, the band being either gilt, silver, or nickle plated, or of any other suitable color that forms a contrast with the dark color of the portions of the rubber or other article visible through the broken-out parts of the band.

The metallic band B is applied to the bracelet, at or near the ends only, by rivets a or other suitable fastening devices, the entire remaining portion of the band resting free on the article, so as to follow or give to the changing shape of the same when opening or closing it for use, the band receding somewhat from the article when the same is extended, being replaced tightly thereon when it assumes, by the action of its spring, its natural position.

An elegant ornamentation for such articles that return to the natural position by the spring of their material is thus furnished, which is not detrimental to the articles themselves, nor damaged by the working of the same, so that thereby the more general use of such articles is promoted by the improved appearance of the same;

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As a new article of manufacture, a bracelet or analogous article consisting of a spring'ban,

having applied in a longitudinal direction to its exterior, and attached at its ends, an ornamental metallic strip, which adapts itself to the varying shape of the spring-band, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
