Be it known that l, VERNON PALK, a citizen of the United States of America;andka resident of lrvington, inlthe county of ES- sex and State of `New Jersey, havein'vented certain new and useful Improvements in Bracelets, of which thelfollowingis avspeci` fication.
The present invention relates to improvements in bracelets, and particularly an iin proved bracelet of the flexible type. An ob ject of the invention is to provide a brace .let of this character which will have 'the continuous appearance of a band bracelet, while at the same time possessing great flexibility. A further object is to provide such a device which will be attractive and neat in appearance, simple in construction, and inexpensive to manufacture.
lilith these and other objects in view, my invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, and will be hereinafter more fully described with reference thereto and finally pointed out in the claims.
ln the accompanying drawings,
lgure l is a perspective view of my iinprcved bracelet;
lllig. 2 is an enlarged plan view showing several of the inner portions used in my invention linked together;
Fig. 3 is a perspective View of one of the outer portions; i
Fig. 4E is a longitudinal sectional view of my improved bracelet; and
Fig. 5 is a crosssectional view thereof.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several gs ures of the drawings.
Referring to the drawings, my invention comprises an inner core or supporting member formed from a plurality of flat sections l0 linked together by means of a slot ll provided in one end thereof and an extending portion 12 at the other end thereof, corresponding in width to the said slot. These extensions are engaged in the slot l1 and bent around the end of the sections in such manner as to form a practically at and continuous flexible member. The sections are provided with central cutsout portions 18 to economize material and to lighten the weight of the bracelet.
Mounted over each section there is pro vided a sleeve or cover piece 14, which forms the outer surface of the bracelet, and which may be provided with suitable ornamenta- 1 tionsuch as `engraving or` chasing, or ifdesired, `the samemay be set with precious stones` Flanges l5 andi@` are providedat` the sidesof themember `l-fl, havingtheuends thereoffturnedinwardly asiat 17 and 18m clamp or solderI the cover piece upon the n flexible `.portion "and to V `form snug and 16 are slightly beveled, as at it) and 20, so as to permit the bracelet to be bent with raient-ea New. minis".
engagea a inenttherewitln rlhe ends of the flanges l5 the movement ofthe inner portion. The
outer surface of the cover piece may, :if de sired, be slightly curved so as to give to the complete bracelet when worn a continuous curved surface.
My improved construction provides a very attractive article of this character, `which will appeal strongly to those desiring an attractive bracelet having the appearance of a continuous band or faceted bracelet with the utility and comfort of a flexible one. My invention may also be used as a fasten ing means for wrist watches and other such forms of jewelry.
l have illustrated and described a preferred and satisfactory form of my invention, but it is obvious that changes may be made therein within the spirit and scope thereof, as defined in the appended claims.
l claim l. ln a device of the character described, an inner flexible supporting member comprising a plurality of hinged sections, each of said sections consisting of a fiat plate having its transverse axis parallel to the transverse axes of the other sections, and a plurality of outer sections open at their ends and respectively clamped over each of said sections of said inner flexible member, said hinged sections forming a continuous chain extending through said outer members.
2. ln a device of the character described, an inner flexible supporting member coinprising a plurality of sections directly hinged to each other, each of said sections consisting of a flat plate having its transverse aXis parallel to the transverse axes of the other sections, and a plurality of outer `sections ttl-shaped in cross-section, and open at their ends and respectively clamped over each of said sections of said inner flexible member, said hinged sections forming a con tinuous chain extending through said outer members, the upper portion of said outer sections forming a substantially continuous outer surface.
3. In av device of the Character described, :in inner flexible supporting member comprising e plurality of hinged sections, each of said sections consisting of a flat pluto having its transverse axis parallel to the transverse axes of the other sections, a plurality of outer sections U-sheped in crosssection and open at their ends, and respectively clamped over each of said sections of said inner flexible member, said hinged sections forming a continuous chain extending through said outer members, the upper portions of said outer members substantially engaging eeeh other, and the side portions :It their respective ends inclined toward 1.3
euch other from the upper surfaces of said outer members to the lower edges of smid side portions to permit of' relatively great movement of the said outer portions with the movement of the inner flexible member in one direction.
In testimony, that l claim the foregoing :is my invention` I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
