IMPROVEMENT IN SEWING-MACHINE CASTERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 142,615, dated September 9, 1873 application filed V May 2, 1873.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ELIAS R. CLARK, of

Marshfield, Warren county, State of Indiana,

have invented anew and Improved Caster for Sewing-Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be an exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a side elevation of the sewing-machine stand with the' casters beneath and the adjustable devices at the ends for moving the casters upward, so as to allow the legs of the stand to rest upon the floor when required. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same, the dotted lines showing the casters raised when required. Fig. 3 represents a perspective view of one of the feet and casters.

The nature of my invention consists in a novel arrangement and combination of the adjustable bars, operating in an upright guide or slide, so as to raise the hinged feet of the casters when required, as will be hereinafter more fully described. The object is to allow the sewing-machine table to stand firmly on its legs when the machine is operating, and when the table or stand is required to be moved to any part of the room thecasters are dropped underneath by means of their movable feete A represents the sewing-machine stand, having an upright guide, B, attached to each end, and cross-bars U G G sliding on the guide B, while the lower ends of the bars are attached to the movable feet D D, operating on hinges E E. The feet D have projecting pins 01 fitting into sockets F at the lowerends of the legs, so as to hold the casters G firmly to their places and. prevent any strain on the hinges E when the table is being moved.

The casters are raised or lowered by means of their movable feet at any time when required by simply raising or lowering the crossbar 0.

I do not claim, broadly, the use of a hinged plate or movable foot, as applied to a sewingmachine caster, for I am aware that this is not new 5 but What I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The combination of the movable hinged feet D, casters G, cross-bars O G 0, guide B, pins d, and socket F, all constructed, arranged, and operating as shown and described, for the purposes set forth.
