ateut HENRY T. DE MONTIGNY, OF WEST TROY, NEW YORK.
` Letters Patent No. 88,281, dated March 30, 1869.
IMPROVE!) IRONING--TABLE 1 -*w* The Schedule referred to inzthese Letters Patent and palxt of l the name.
To all lwhom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY T. DE MONTIGNY, of the town of West Troy, county of Albany, State of New York, have invented a new and improved Ironing- Table; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in whichv Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the invention, when placed and arranged for operation.
Figure 2 is a vertical view from the top, with top removed, and brackets folded.
Figure 3 is a cross-section, showing the table folded, and also the brackets.
Figure 4 is a vertical view of plate for fastening to the iioor.
In ironing skirts, and other similar articles of Wearing-apparel, the operator usually performs his or her work upon a skirt-board, one end of which is placed upon a table, and the other end is supported on the back of a chair, which, in many instances, is very inconvenient to the person operating.
By my invention, I furnish a light, portable stand, by which the skirt-board is supported; and the said stand is so constructed as to be easily fixed to the floor of a room, to prevent its being tilted, when the board is being operated upon.
The skirt-board, or top is made in sections, which are hinged together in such a way as to allow it to be folded up and opened out at pleasure; and, when opened out for work, the said top is made perfectly firm by a series of folding brackets, which are so jointed and-arranged as to occupy but little space, when the invention is not 1n use.
To enable others skilled in thc art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it in reference to the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon, the same letters indicating like parts.
' A, fig. 3, represents a section of a oor, on which is planted the base, B, of the table.
The said base, "B, may be of wood or iron.
From the said base rises up the standard C, made of iron or wood, on which rests section cof the skirttable E.
Sinall braces, c, are provided, whichV start from the front side of the standard C, and rise up on a line with the top of the said standard, and are intended to sup- The skirt-table, or top E is made in sections, e, e', and c, properly jointed and hinged, which are supported by the folding brackets F, F', and F, which are hinged thus:
The bracket F is hinged, or pivoted to the base of the stand, and to the under side of section c of the top, E, or may be hinged to the standard C. The bracket F is hinged to the first bracket, F, and the bracket Ff is hinged to the .bracket F.
Suitable hooks, buttons, or slide-bolts, s s, are provided, to keep the brackets in position, and fixed, when the table is being used.
To secure the table firmly down on the floor, I fix, in the Hoor, a plate, u, provided with an oblong opening, or slot, which is' to receive the key It, which enters the said opening, or slot, and being partially turned around, when the said key locks into it.
A handle, h, is provided, and attached to the said kcy by a shaft, which runs down through the base of the said stand.
The manner of operating with this table is as follows:
The base, B, of the table is placed on the floor, with the key It over and entering the opening, or slot a, iixed in the floor, when the handle h is partly turned. The sections e e are then turned up, from theirfolding position, to a horizontal lille, as shown in fig. 1, and the brackets, F, F', and F", are also unfolded, as shown in iig. 2, when they are secured by the hooks s s, or their ready for use.
Having described myinvention,
What I claim, and desii'e'to secure by Letters Pat ent is- 1. The folding skirt-table top E, formed of the sections c 'e' e, in combination with the standard G and base, B, constructed and arranged as specified.
2, The brackets F F F", in combination with the purpose set forth, as specified.
the table-top E, Iliade with folding sections, e c c", and the folding brackets F F F, all in combination, and constructed and arranged in the manner described, for the purpose specified.
