SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 627,648, dated June 27, 1899.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, GEORGE H. LooKAED, aresident of Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Seam-Ironing Boards; and I do hereby declare the-following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,- such as will enable others'skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to an improvement in ironing-boards, and more particularly to such as are adapted for use in ironing seams in sleeves and the like, the object of the invention being to so construct a device of the above character that it will be neat in appearance, cheap to manufacture, easily manipulated, and which can be folded and packed in a comparatively smallspace for shipment.

With these objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a view of the seam-ironing board in perspec- Fig. 2 is a view of the same in section, and Figs. 3 and& are views of details.

1 represents a base composed, preferably, of Wood or other light material and contracted centrally between its ends, as shown at2, for the purpose of lightness and ornamentation and also to constitute a convenient handhold. Suitable cushion-blocks 3 may be disposed on the under face of the base 1 to prevent slipping or scratching.

A block 4 is pivotally connected to one end of the base 1 by means of a pin or pivot 5, and the inner end 6 of my improved seam-ironing board 7 is disposed on top of said block t and connected therewith at one side by means of a suitable hinge 8, whereby to permit the seam-board 7 to be folded down when the device is to be packed for shipment or'to make the device more convenient to carry. The inner end 6 of the seam-board and the block 4 are provided with screw-threaded holes in alinement with each other for the reception of a thumb-screw 9, whereby to secure the board in position for use and prevent its accidental displacement. The board 7 is preferably curved, as shown, and is made with a flat or smooth upper face, which is covered with suitable felt 10, whereby to form a cushion. The free end of the board 7 is provided with a recess or pocket 11 for the reception of a spring-latch 12, disposed in the base, and the end of the board is preferably cut out or recessed,- as shown at 13, whereby to form a guide for the spring-latch 12. A suitable stop or projection 14 is disposed on the base or platform in proximity to the latch 12, whereby, to prevent the board 7 from-bein moved past the latch.

When it is desired to place a sleeve or other article on the board, it is simply necessary to pull the board to one side, place the sleeve ..around the board, and then move the board to its normal or working position, when it will strike against the stop 14 and the latch 12 will prevent any undesired movement of the board. The sleeve or other article .is then turned until the seam restson the upper cushioned face of the board, when the seam can be readily and most eifectually pressed without creasing any other part of the sleeve.

Various slight changes might be resorted to .in the general form and arrangement of the I claim as new, and desire to secureby Letters Patent, is

1. The combination with a base and a block pivoted thereto, of a curved ironing-board resting at one end on said block and hinged at one side thereto and a latch for locking the other end of the board to the base substantially as set forth.

2. In a seam-ironing board, the -combination with a base. having a socket in its face near one end, and a spring-catch disposed in said socket and projecting above the plane of the face of the base, of acnrved board having a pivotal connection at one end with the base and flattened at its free end to moveover the face of the base, said free flattened end of the board having a socket in its under face to receive said spring-latch, and a stop on the base in position to be engaged by the free end of the board to insure the proper entrance of the latch into the socket in the board.

3. As an article of manufacture, a seamironing board comprising a base, a block revolubly connected to one end of said base, an ironing-board curved on its upper edge hinged at one end to said block and means whereby to normally secure the board to the revoluble block.

4. Aseam-ironing bo'ard comprisinga base, a block having a screw threaded opening therein, pivotally connected to one end of said base, an ironing-board curved on its upper edge, and provided at one end with a screw-threaded opening to aline with the opening in the block, a thumb-screw adapted to enter said openings to normally secure said parts together, a hinge connecting said board with the socket therein and a stop on the base alongside the latch, substantially as set forth.
