TABLE-LEAF SUP-PORT.
SPEL?!FIGAJJICON forming part of Letters Patent No. 279,986, dated June 26, 1883. Application inea mmh 31.1883. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Beit known that I, DAVID SHULER, a citizen f of the United States, residing at New Dover, in the county of Union and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Table-Leaf Support, of which theillowingis a specication, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a hinged leaf 4or table hinged to a ledge or br.r #het adapted to '10 be secured to .the wall ol a room in such a manner that the said leaf may be readily raised and used for various purposes, while at the same time it is capable of being folded, so as to be out of the way when not in use; and4 my inven- 1 vtion consists in the improved construction and arrangement of the said leaf and of the support for the same, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed ont in Lne' claim.
In the drawings hereto annexed, Figure lis a perspective yiew, showing the device in position for use, part of the leaf having been broken away for the purpose of better showing the e instruction of the support. Fig., 2 is a 2 5 vertical sectional view; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view, showing the leaf folded.
The same letters refer to the same parts iny 4all the figures. A in the drawings designates a ledge or bracket ofsui'table dimensions, having a iiunge, B, to receive screws C C, or other means by which the said ledge or bracket may be secured in a horizontal position to the wall of a room er in any place where my invention is to be used.
l) is a leaf, of suitable size and shape,which is hinged to the ledge or bracket A, preferably in the same manner as an ordinary table-leaf;
E is an upright or vertical prop, the upper 4o and lower ends of which are journaled, respectively, in the under side ofthe ledge or bracket A and in a socket or recess in the floor ot' the room, said prop thus serving to-support the ledge or bracket A firmly. To the upper end of the prop is hinged an arm, l, to the under side ol' which, at its outer end, is secured a curved er segmental strap or brace, G, the
lower end of which hasfa slot, H. I is a similar brace, secured t0 the' front side of the prop E, and curved upwardly, so :is to meet the passes through the slot H, and isV provided with a thumb-nut, K,'which may be tightened, so as to secure the straps G and I in any position to which they maybe adjusted in relation to each other.
The operation of my invention will be readily y understood: By means of thebrac formed by the straps G and I the arm F may be held securely in a horizontal position. 'hen the prop E is turned so as to swing the arm F in under the ledge, the leaf may be dropped, and it .will thus be out of the wzty. When itis desired to use the leaf or table, it maybe raised and suppored' uponfthenrmF, which, by 1{uinirig the prop, may be swung out under it. This table is useful and convenient for a variety of purposes. It may be converted into a convenient lbrace G. The strap I has a screw, J,-which desk or writing-table by simply adjusting the brace so as to give a slant. to the leaf, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, the degree of the slant being easily regulated by the person using the table.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent oi' the United States- The combination of the bracket A, the leaf l), hinged tothe cdgc ol' thc same, the vertical prop E, journaled in the under side of said bracket and in the iloor, an arm, F, hinged to the upper end of said prop,und having a curved strap or brace, (i, provided with a slot, IL and a strap or brace, I, secured to the front side ot the prop, and having a screw, J, and thumbA nut K, whercbyit muy bc adjust-ably connected with the strap (i, substantially as und for the purpose set forth.
ln testimony that l claim the foregoing ns my own I have hereto niiixcd my signature i n presA ence of two witnesses.
l Divin s'n'ljmm.
