FOOT=REST FOR STOOLS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 388,981, dated September 4, 1888.
Application filed January 9. 1888.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAVE LA BARBE, of Roselaud, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Foot-Rest for Stools, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of one of the foot-rest supports. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the clamp for engaging the leg of the stool, and 3 is a perspective View of a stool to which my improved foot-rest has been applied.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
The object of my invention is to provide for stools a foot-rest which may be attached in any desired position to the legs of the stool,which may be let down when desired for use, and which, when necessary, can be folded up out of the way.
Myinvention consists in a pairof clamps for clamping the legs of a stool, an adjustable ear for varying the inclination of the foot-rest support, and an arm hinged to the adjustable ear and adapted to receive the board forming the support for the feet.
The clamp A,Which engages the legB of the stool, is forn'ied of two halves, a I), connected by a screw, 0, at one end and a bolt, (1, at the opposite end. The parts a b are curved to adapt them to fit the convex surface of the average stool-leg. The part b is thickened at the end which receives the bolt (2, to provide ahearing-surface, c, for the ear f. The belt at, which binds the two parts of the clamp to gether, also passes through the earf. The ear f extends above the clamp A, and to the said ear is pivoted an arm, 0, which is provided with a stop, 9, for limiting its downward 1110 Serial No. 260.172. (No model.)
tion, and with ears h, for receiving thescrews by which it is attached to the board D, forming the support for the feet. The attachment of the ear f to the clamp A by means of the bolt d admits of varying the angle of the said ear, so as to permit of bringing the upper surfaces of the arm 0 into the same plane for attachment to the board D. By this means the foot-rest may be adapted to stools having legs of different inclinations.
The board D,when in use, islet down into an approximately horizontal position,and is held in that position by the engagement of the stops 9 with the carsf, and when it is not in use it is folded up out of the way, as indicated in dotted lines.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a foot-rest, the combination of a clamp adapted to engage the legs of a stool or chair, an ear adj ustably secured to the elamp,and an arm pivoted to the ear, substantially as described.
2. In a foot-rest support for stools, the combination of the clamp A, formed of the parts a b, the part I) being provided with a plane surface, 6, the ear f, the bolt (1, and the arm 0, pivoted to the ear f and provided with the stop 9, substantially as described.
3. The combination, in a foot'rest, of the clamps A, formed of the parts a b, the ears f, pivotally connected with the clamps, the arms 0, pivoted to the earsf and provided with the stops 9, and the board D, attached to the arms 0, substantially as described.
GUSTAVE LA BARBIE.
