To all whom t may concern a citizen of the United States, residing.y at Whitaker, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsv 1n Tap iic'ation.
My invention relatesl to improvements in wrenches and more particularly to a newand mong the objects of the present invention are, to provide a simple andeiiicient .wrench construction'capable of being employed as a single handed orga double h anded wrench; an adjustabley tap wrench including a pair of gripping jaws having simplemeans for moving one of said jaws relatively to the other; anda tap1wrench having a detachable and reversibleV handle and means cooper@ atingv with the handle Vfor vsecuring the handles to the wrench in a plurality of oper- `ative positions. Referring to the drawings and first to the form of Figure 1, .2 designates a fixed grippingand' 3 a movable jaw of a tap wrench. As illustrated andas preferred the jaws are mounted on a horizontally extending bar or member 4, the latter having at one end a screw threaded portion 5 and at or near its other end means for rigidly securing the fixed jaw member 2 thereto. As
yshown the jaw member 2 is secured to bar 4 by a headed end portion and a pin 6.

openings of the respective j awfmem'bers and has' its tapered portionc disposed in contact with the tapered bore of opening 14, thus providing a double handed wrench. The handle may be readily changed from the position shown by Figure 1 to the position shown by Figure 3, in `this last mentioned position the structure is what is commonly termed a.singlehanded'wrench. In the position the handle assumes in Figure 3 the endtapered portion d is entered in the tapered bore of the opening 14.
While I have lfound that a handle ofl the character described and employed inl conjunction with `the tapered opening 14 is a very satisfactory construction, I do not desire to be limited to this particular form of handle and the securing means.
In the form of Figure 4, 'I employ a nontapered bar or handle 16EL and securev the handle to the iixed jaw in the desired operative positions by means of a set screw 17;
in this last described form the opening 14a is not tapered.
What I claim is:

2. In a tap wrench apair offgripping jaws, an adjustable detachable handle engaging the jaws, and means for securing the handle to the jaws in a plurality of operative positions relatively to the ends of the handle.
3. In a tapwrench a pair of gripping` jaws, an adjustable detachable handle engaging the jaws, and means for securing the handle to the aws in a .plurality of' operative positions, said securing means including yan opening in one jaw having a tapering bore.
4:. In a tap wrench, a pair of grippingV and reversible handle, a pairof jaws slid ably mounted on the handle, and means whereby the operating position of both of the jaws relatively to Vthe handlev may be varied longitudinally of the handle.

A tap wrench comprising a handle, a pair of jaws onthe handle, means whereby the operatingr positionof both of the jaws relatively to the handle may be variedlongitudinally of the handle, and means whereby one jawemay be adjusted relatively tothe other while the operating position `of the jaws remain fixed.
7. A tap wrench comprising a handle, a
pair of Vjaws movable together along the handle to vary the operating. position of the jaws relatively to the handle, means for securing 'the aws in the positions to Vwhich they may be moved, and means for moving one jaw relatively of the other while the op-V erating position remains ixed.Vr l
Y8. A tap wrench comprisinga handle, a pair 'of jaws adjustable relatively tor' each other, and means whereby the jaws may be moved together along the handle to vary the operating position of the jaws relatively to the handle.

A tap wrench comprising a detachable and reversible handle, a jaw slidably secured on the handle, a second jaw on the handle movable longitudinally relatively to the first, means for securing the jaws to the handle in a plurality of different operative positions, means for ,electing' the longitudinal movement of the'second jaw, and a compression spring between the jaws tending to hold them apart. 10. A tap wrench comprising a handle, a pair of jaws, vmeans whereby the jaws may ,be secured to thehandle at diiferent positions relatively to the ends thereof, means for moving-one jaw towards the other when thus secured, and a compression 'spring between thejaws tending to holdthem apart.
