Description

WRENCH.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL PETERSON, a citizen of Finland, residing at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and use-.
ful Improvements in lVrenches, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in wrenches and its object is to provide a simple practical wrench provided with jaws which are jointly adjustable relative to the shank and which are adjustable also with relationto each other. A further object is to provide a wrench particularly adapted to work ordinarily difficult of access with the ordinary wrench. A further object is to provide a wrench that is cheap to manufacture, compact, positiveand efficient in operation.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application and in which Fig. 1 is a view of my wrench in side elevation. V
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the same. 7
Like reference characters denote corre sponding parts in both views.
The reference numeral 1 denotes the shank which is formed with the fiat end 2 and with the deep groove 3 extending from the baseof said flat end 2 almost the entire 1 opposite end of said handle being provided with the cap 11 perforated to permit passage therethrough of the free end of the portion 7 of the shank. The handle is formed interiorly with the raised threads 12 in engagement with the notched portions- 13 formed in the flatpitman 14 disposed in the Specification of Letters Patent. Pate- 1 1 F b '7 1922 Application filed March 30, 1921. 7
Serial No. 456,904. I
- grooved portion 3 of the shank and slidable against the upper end of the handle 10, said pitman being pivotally connected by the pin I 16 to the bifurcated portion 17 of the jaw .18, said bifurcated jaw portion 17 being ful-.
crumed upon the pin 19' carried by theifiat shankportion 2.
Rotation of the handle 10 will slide the pitman 141 and so rock the jaw 18 upon its fulcrum. The jaw 18 is formed with the integral rack 20 upon which the relatively movable jaw 21, that cooperates with the jaw'18, is arranged, said jaw being movable over the rack by means of the thumb nut 22 connecting said members. Movement of the handle 10 moves the jaws 18, 21 together,
two positions of the same being illustrated I in the drawing. Movement ofthe thumb nut 22 moves the jaw 21 relative to for engagement with the work.
What is claimed-is:
1. In a wrench, a longitudinally shank, a rotary handle at one end offsaid shank and formed interiorly with raised threads, a notched pitmau slidable in the grooved portion of said shank and extendjaw 18 "it grooved ing into said handle, the notches thereof receiving the threads of said handle, a jaw fulcrumed to said shank andconnected to said pitman, a rack integral with said jaw, a second aw slidable upon said rack, and a' thumb nut connecting said'second jaw and rack;
2. In a wrench, a longitudinally grooved shank, a rotary handle at one end of said shank and formed interiorly with raised threads, a notched pitman slidable in the grooved portion of said shank and extending into said handle, the notches thereof receiving the threads of said handle, ajjaw fulcrumed to said shank and connected to said pitman, and a second jaw adjustably connected to said first'named jaw.
'3. In a wrench, a longitudinally grooved shank having one flattened end, a rotary handle at the opposite end of said shank andformed interiorly with raised threads, a
perforated cap for one end of said handle, a
notched pitman slidable in the grooved POT".
tion of said shank and extending through said handle and perforated cap, a stay pin in the freeend of said pitman beyond said cap,
the notches in said pitman receiving the In testimony that I claim the foregoing as threads of said handle, a bifurcated jaw fulmy own I have hereto afiixed my signature crumed t0 the flattened end of said shank in the presenceof tWo subscribing Witnesses. 10 andrconnected to said pitman, a rack inte- CARL PETERSON.
