SoHMrrz,^ handle 10 projects, the head 11 having a stud a citizen of the United States, residing at v Southmayde, in the county of Grayson and 'State of- Texas, have invented a` new and useful Nut or Bolt Holder, of which the l`following is a specification.
This invention aims to provide a simple meansl forrholding nuts, bolts and the' like,
`l0 in inaccessible places, the tool being of -peculiar utility in the hands of automobile me- Vv'chanics and others who are called upon to work in allimited space.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility. of devices of that type to which the invention appertains. l
' ,With the above and other lobjects in view.
which will appear as the description pro- A ceeds, the invention resides in the comblnation and arrangement of partssand, in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, witliin the scope of whatlis claimed, changes in l the .precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing4 from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings Figure 1 shows in side elevation, a tool l, constructed in accordance with the invention; Figure 2 isan elevation wherein the tool is viewed edgewise; Figure 3 is a frag- Amental.: side elevation showing a Ymodification.,
35 In'carrying out the invention, there is pro- VVvided a'main member 1 including a shank 2l provided with a laterally projecting jaw Y 3, the shank 2 having a handle 4 offset in a direction lopposite to that in which the jaw 40- 3 projects.
'The tool comprises an auxiliary meniber i 5 including a jaw 6 disposed parallel to the jaw i3` and located outwardly thereof, the
v auxlliary member 5 embodying an extension 7 disposed at an angle tothe shank 2 and provided with a slot 8.
The numeral 9l marks a lever including a handle 10 disposed parallel tothe handle 4 'of-the main member 1, the lever 9 coinpris ing a curved head 11 projecting beyond the or other projection, denoted by. the numeral 12 and mounted to slide in the slot 8 of the part 7 of the auxiliary member 5. A pivot element 14 connects the intermediate portion of the head 11\ on the lev`e'r 9 with the ,shank 2 of the main member 1.
Thev main member 1 carries a pivot ele` ment 15 received in a slot 16 in the auxiliary 60 member 5, the ordinary shifting c onstruc-4 tion, common in pliers, being afforded by the slot 16.
'The inner faces of the jaws 6 and 3 are provided with longitudinal recesses 17, there being transverse ribs 18 on the inner'faces of the jaws, the ribs being located on opposite sides ofthe recesses 17. The jaws 6 and 3 may be supplied 4with transverse recesses 19, the various recesses in the jaws facilitating the holding of workof different kinds; f
-When the handles 4 and 10 are pressed together, the boss 12 rides in the slot 8,.the auxiliary member 5 tilts on its fulcrum 15, and the jaw 6 cooperates with the jaw 3.
In the modification shown in, Figure 3, parts hereinbefore' described have been designated by numerals previously used, with `the suiix a..
The pivot element 15 for the auxiliary member 5 is sp-aced from the jaw 3, and. the jaw 6 is located inwardly of the jaw 3, instead of outwardly of that jaw, as
shown in Figure 1. The position of the 35' handles 10 and 4 is reversed fro-m the show- ,ing of Figure 1, in vorder that, twhen the handles 4 and 10 are pressed together, the -j aw 6 may cooperate with the jaw 3.
y Having thus describedathe invention, what is claimedds: j In a-device of the class described, a main member includin a shank provided at one end with a latera ly offset handle, the shank being provided at its opposite end with a jaw, projecting in a direction opposite to that in which the handle is offset; a lever fulcrumed intermediate its ends on the shank and provided with a handle disposed approximately parallel tothe handle of the shank; and an auxiliary member fulcrumed as my own, if have hereto atixed my signaintermediate its ends on the shank, the auxture in the presence of two Witnesses.
iliary member comprising a jaw cooperating with the jaw of the shank, und comprising' an extension having a slot, and a leverhaving' u projection received slidably in the slot.
In testimony that 1I claim the foregoing JOSEPH H. SCHMITZ.
