HALVOR A. LUND, OF XVARREN, ARIZONA.
COMBINATION COMB AND BRUSH. 7
Application filed July 22,
To all whom 2'2? may concern:
Be it known that'l, l-lenvon A. LUND, a citizen of the United States, residing at il arren, in'the county of Cochise and State of Arizona, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Combination Combs and Brushes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such. as will enable others skilled in the artto which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in combination devices and more particularly to a combination comb and brush, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will simplify the use of both elements and which will at the same time enable either elementto be used independently of the other.
A further object resides in providing a device which will enable the device to be used with one hand, thereby permitting the hair to be brushed and combed at one and the same time. 7
Still another object resides in providing a device which is simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture, and which will enable the user to carry the same in the pocket of his clothing as he would an ordinary comb.
With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter referred to and particularly pointed out in the specification and claims.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the most simple form of my invention,
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing a slightly difierent form thereof, the comb being folded in position against the brush, and
Fig. 3 is a similar View showing the comb extended and ready for use in connection with the brush.
In describing the invention I shall refer to the drawing in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which 1 designates a flat back for a brush, said back being of any desired size and mounted therein are the bristles 2. The bristles do not cover the entire width of the back 1 of the brush, leaving an open space in the back Specification of Letters Patent.

Evil
which may be designated in the drawings as 1 2 becured to the side edge of the back 1 most remote from the bristles 2 is a comb 3,
the same being secured to the back by means of screws or other adjustable means designatedas 3 and in securing the comb to the back of the brush it will be observed that the teeth 42075 t e comb are arranged to project to a plane even with the plane of the ends of the bristles 2.
It will be seen that this combination device may be used by the operation of one hand so that the hair may be combed and brushed at one and the same time. However, the space between the comb and the bristles which I have designated in the drawing as 2 enables the device to be tilted so that either the comb or the bristles of the brush may be used independently.
in Figs. 2 and 3 I have shown a slightly modified form of the invention wherein a brush 5 is provided which is preferably of educed width. Secured to the one side "are of the of the brush 5 is a hinge T and hinged to the leaf 7 is an addii nal hinge leaf 8, the leaf 8 being capable of being swung to a position as shown in F or to a position as shown in Fig. 2, as indicated by the dotted are 9. A comb 6 is provided which is so constructed as to be hinged as shown at 10 to the outer edge of the leaf 8. The comb 6 is so hinged that when it is in the position as shown in Fig. 3 the upper edge thereof will abut the inner side face of the leaf 8 to prevent folding of the comb inwardly against said leaf, but the comb 6 may be folded outwardly against the outer face of the leaf, as shown in Fig. 2. Thus, when it is desired to carry the device in the pocket the leaf 8 is folded against the side of the brush 5 and the comb 6 folded against the outer side of the leaf 8, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. When it is desired to place the device in use, it is only necessary to extend the leaf 8 to a horizontal position and fold the comb 6 downwardly with respect thereto, bringing the complete device to a position as shown in Fig. 3. The device may then be used for both brushing and combing the hair by a single operation of one hand and inasmuch as the comb 6 remains spaced from the bristles of the brush, it will be seen that the possibility of using the comb 6 or the brush independently is at the will of the user.
The brush head 5 and the comb 6 are i gripped by a person with the'leaf 8 resting ficient means for carrying out the object of the invention and while I have described the elements best adapted to perform the functions'set forth, it will be understood that various changes in form may be made in accordance with the scope of the appended claims. Having thus described my invention what I claim is 1. A device of the class described comprising a brush including a back and bristles depending"therefrom, and a comb hinged to depending therefrom, an extension hinge secured to the one side edge of said back and a comb pivoted to said hinge and adapted for folding against the side of said brush and also for extension to a position in spaced relation to the aforesaid bristles.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two Witnesses. 1
