Be it known that I, 'WILLIAMM. DUoKER, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Retaining Devices for VVindow-Sash, of lowing is a specification. u
This invention relates. to a retaining device for window sash and the object thereof is to provide a simple, efiici'ent devicewhich will serve to maintain the window sash'in any adjusted elevated position, without. the
use of weights or other counterbalancingi devices.

The base member is preferably formed of angle shape, as shown in Fig. 2, having a vertical leg 5 arranged to engage the-edge surface ofthe Window frame, and a horizontal leg 6,'at the lower end-of the vertical leg, projecting into. a recess 7 formed in the windowsash. A screw 8 may be employed to connect the vertical leg with the material of the sash.

A retaining device for window sash, comprising a spring adapted to be fixed to the window sash, a roller carried directly by said spring, the spring being adapted to urge the roller outwardly from the window sash into frictional engagement with a portion of a window frame, ratchet teeth formed upon said roller, said teeth being beveled off at their outer rear corners, and means cooperating with said beveled outer corners for permitting rotation of the roller in one direction while preventing rotation in the opposite direction.

A retaining device for window sash, comprising a spring adapted to be fixed to the window sash, a roller-carried directly by said spring, the spring being adapted to urge the roller outwardly from the Window sash into frictional engagement with a portion of a window frame, the roller having ratchet teethformed thereon and having axle portions extending from opposite sides thereof to engage portions of said spring, and a pawl carried by one of said axle portions having an engagement with said spring and having means for engaging said ratchet teeth to prevent rotation of the roller in one direction.

A retaining device for window sash, comprising a spring adapted to be fixed to the window sash, a roller carried directly by said spring, the spring being adapted to urge the roller outwardly from the window sash into frictional engagement with a portion of a window frame, the roller having ratchet teeth formed thereon and having axle portions extending from opposite sides thereof to engage portions of said spring, and a pawl for engaging said ratchet teeth to prevent rotation of the roller in one direction, said pawl comprising a member slotted to slidably engage over one of said axle members and having slidable engagement with a portion of said spring.

A retaining device for window sash, comprising a spring adapted to be fixed to the window sash, a roller carried directly by said spring,'the spring being adapted to urge the roller outwardly from the. window sash into frictional engagement with a portion of a window frame, the roller having ratchet teeth formed thereon and having axle portions extending from opposite sides thereof to engage portions of said spring, and a pawl for engaging said ratchet teeth to prevent rotation of the roller in one direction, said pawl comprising a member apertured to receive one of said axle portions having rotary engagement with a portion of said spring, and means for limiting the rotary movement of said pawl,
8. A retaining device for window sash,
by a part of a window and 'to roll along an other part of the window when said parts are moved relative to each other, supporting means whereby said roller is rotatably supported, a ratchet carried by said roller, and means carried partly by said roller and partly by said support adapted to engage said ratchet for retaining said roller against rotary movement in one direction.

A retaining device for window sash, comprising a roller adapted to be carried by a part of a window for frictionally engaging another part of a window movable relatively to the first part, supporting means whereby said roller is rotatably supported to rotate when said parts of the window are moved with respect to each other, ratchet teeth formed upon the roller, and a pawl engaging the teeth of the ratchet to prevent rotation of the roller in one direction, said pawl having slidable engagement with said support and also having a fiat body portion interposed between the roller and the support for the purpose set forth.

A retaining device for window sash, comprising a roller adapted to be carried by a part of a window for frictionally engaging another part of a window movable relatively to the first part, supporting means whereby said roller is rotatably supported to rotate when said parts of the window are moved with respect to each other, ratchet teeth formed upon the roller, a pawl for engaging the teeth of the roller, said pawl having rotary engagement with said sup port and also having a relatively wide flat body portion interposed between the roller and the support for limiting the rotary movement of the pawl, whereby to retain "the roller against rotary movement in one direction.

A retaining device for window sash, comprising a base member of angle shape providing a vertical leg adapted to be fixed to one edge surface of a window sash and a horizontal leg adapted to project into a recess formed in the window sash, a spring fixed directly to said horizontal leg, a roller carried directly by said spring, .and the means for fixing said spring to said horizontal leg comprising a section of the material of the horizontal leg struck down to form a recess into which a portion of said spring is received.
