UNITED STATES PATENT Ol lIiIOE.
.T WESLEY OHL, OF NILES, OHIO.
SLIDING-DOOR HANGER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J VVESLEY ()HL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Niles, in the county of Trumbull and. State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sliding-Door Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to sliding door hangers, and is preferably constructedfor use upon sliding doors on cars of any description.
The object of the invention is to provide a sliding door hanger with a sheave frame which is readily adjustable upon the hanger so as to properly position the door in its rel ation to the floor and track upon which it is supported.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character having a hanger provided with a substantial housing adapted for the reception of the sheave frame and sheave, the housing of the hanger being so constructed. as to provide for the ready insertion of or removal of the sheave frame.
With. these and. other objects in view the invention resides in the novel construction of the elements comprising the hanger and their arrange-uncut in operative combination, hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In. the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through a door and door h an ger provided with my improvements. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view upon the line 2-2 of lfig. 1.. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the sheave frame.
In the accompanying drawings the numeral 1 designates a movable door of that class usually employed upon cars of any ordinary construction, and the numeral 2 designates a track upon which the door 1 is adapted to be moved.
The numeral 3 designates the hanger member of the improved device. As clearly illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings the member 3 is provided with an elongated face plate 4 provided with suitable openings adapted for the reception of securing devices 5, by which it is secured to the door 1, and also having its ower edge provided with an offset 6 adapted for engagement with-a transverse slot or re cess formed in the side of the door 1, and by which the door is more securely supported by the member 4. The member 4 is eXtcnded a suitable distance beyond the top of the door 1 and is provided with an oifiset or head 7. This head 7 is provided with a depending Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 425,222.
The sheave frame-11 is preferably constructed of a single strip of metal, as illustrated in the figures of the drawing and comprises a front face 12 provided. with a contrally arranged squared opening 13 and being bent rearwardly to provide a back face 1 1 parallel with the face 12 and having its lower end bent outwardly in the direction of the face 12 as designated by the numeral 15. The rear face of the sheave frame 11 is provided with a circular or round opening 16 alining with the squared opening 13 provided in the face 12 of the sheave frame. These openings 13 and 16 are adapted for the reception of an axle 18 seated in a bushing or hub 19 on which the sheave or wheel 20 is rotatably mounted. This aXle 18 has a squared body portion adapted to be seated in a squared central opening in the bushing 19 and the squared opening 13 upon the face of the sheave frame 12, while the opposite end of the axle 18 is reduced and provided. with a round portion adapted to engage the circular opening 16 provided in the face 14 ofthe sheave frame.
The head portion 7 of the hanger member 3 is provided with a centrally arranged vertical threaded opening 17, adapted for the rece )tion of an adjusting screw 18 having its sad provided with a squared wrench hold 19 by which the screw may be readily rotated, and the lower face of the screw 18 is rounded as at 20 and. adapted to be received in a depression 21 in the head of the sheave frame 11. By this arrangement, it will be seen that by simply rotating the screw member 18 the sheave 20 carried by the sheave frame 11 may be pressed upon the track 2 so as to elevate the door 1 to the desired height. It will. be also seen that the offset or projection 15 provided upon the sheave frame 11 will contact with the under face of the track 2 when the door is attempted to be raised from either of its ends.
While I have shown and described the principal embodiment of my invention as it now appears to me, it is to be understood that minor details of construction within the scope of the following claims may he resorted l Wheel positioned Within the inverted U- to Without departing from the spirit or sacrifioing any of the advantages of the invention.
Having thus fully described the invention What is claimed as new is:
In a hanger for sliding doors, the combination with a plate secured to the door, said plate being provided with an inverted U- shaped extended portion having its edges inturned to provide guide lugs, an inverted U- shaped sheave frame carrying a sheave or shaped projecting portion of the face plates, and means for adjusting the sheave frame upon the face plate.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
J WESLEY OHL.
