P A AUSTIN STOP FOR DOOR HANGERS.
Patented Dec. 11,- 1894.
INVENTOR,
==I LII-5% ALLATTORNEY.
WITNESSES:
UNIT STATES PATENT ()FFIGE.
FRANK A. AUSTIN, or SYRACUSE, NEW YORK.
STOP FOR ooon HAneans.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 530,818, dated December 11, 1894.
Application filed March 1. 1894.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK A. AUSTIN, of Syracuse, in the countyof. Onondaga, in the State of New York, have invented new and usefulImprovements in Stops for Door-Hangers, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanyingdrawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to stops for doorhangers, particularly central stops for sliding or rolling hangers, and the object is to provide acentral stop between the hangers oftwo doors that will serve as a stop for both doors, and that may be tipped or tilted to permit either door to pass by the central stop when desired, as is the case when the rear hangers are to be adj usted,
To this end my invention consists in the combination with ahanger, of asupport,and a stop for the hanger mounted on said support and adapted to be moved out of the path of the hanger; and my invention consists also in other combinations hereinafter described and specifically set forth in the claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a view of iny improved stop, in which view the track is shown in cross-section and an end View of ahanger mounted thereon. Fig. 2is a front elevation of the track, central brackets and stop mounted thereon, and Fig. 3 is a detached plan view of the complete stop;
Referring specifically to the drawings, A is the frame work around the track, B, and hanger, O, which may be of any well-known form of construction. I
D, D are the central brackets supporting the track and forming the support for the movable stop. These brackets are placed a short distance apart, are secured to one side of the frame-work and extend to about the center of the passage in the frame-work where they support the track which lies in grooves therein and is riveted thereto as clearly shown I in the drawings in whichE is the upper part Upon and I of the door secured to the hanger. between the said brackets is mounted the stop, F, which may be cast, bntis preferably formed of a piece of sheet-metal. I
I. do not wish to be limited to the shape of and the two central brackets Serial No. 501.933- (No model.)
side of each of the lower horizontal arms of the said brackets, D, D. The inclined or upper arms of the brackets prevent the stop, F, which, asbefore mentioned, is loosely held upon the brackets, from being removed. When it is desired to pass either of the doors by this central stop, the stop may be tipped or tiltedto the position shown in dotted lines in'Fig. l by introducing a pencil or short rod through the slot between the jams, and when the door hangers have been adjusted it may be returned to its normal position by the same means. 7
f, fare rubber bands on the arms of the stop to prevent noise when the hanger-frame comes in contact with the stop. By this form of stop a great deal of time and trouble is saved, allowing the doors to'be adjusted without opening the pockets.
I do not desire to be limited to the form of track or the brackets or supports for the track or stop as'it will be obvious 'thatthese parts may also be varied in form without departing from my invention.
Having described my invention; what I- claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters- Patent, is-
1. The combination with a hanger and a track for the hanger, of a support, and a stop for the hanger mounted loosely on said support and adapted to be moved out of the path of the hanger, as and for the purpose set forth.
2; The combination with a hanger, track and two brackets supporting the track,of a stop in the path of the hanger, and an exten sion of the stop lying loosely upon and between the said brackets, as and for the purpose described. 1 3. The combination with the hangers, track supporting the track, of a central stop in the path of and beprecise 1 0 part, a shank extending from the central part of the same, and a plate formed on said shank to lie on and between the said hangers, as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name.
FRANK A. AUSTIN.
