FRANK r. COLEMAN, OF BEooKPoET, NEW YORK. I
STAY-ROLLER FOR SLIDING DOOR S,-
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 341,640, dated May 11, 1886.
Application filed February 524, 1886. Serial No. 193,019. (No model.) i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK P. COLEMAN, of Brockport, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Stay-Rollerfor Sliding Doors, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to the construction of a stay-roller for sliding doors; and it consists of the construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
Reference isto be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding partsin all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of theroller and its connections as arranged in position for use, the lower outer corner of the door be ing cut away to disclose the construction of the parts. Fig. 2 is an inverted plan view of the guiding-roller and its conuections,'and
.Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 00 x of Fig. 2.
In constructing such a device as is illustrated in the drawings above referred to, I provide an outwardly-projectingbracket, A, of which the parallel arms a a are provided with slots 1), as shown, while the outer cross plate, 0, is formed with a central aperture, d, through which the shank e of the roller-standard B projects, the inner end of said shank 6 being rigidly connected with a sliding block, 0, formed with lugsff, which ride in the grooves b of the bracket A, the parts being normally held intheposition shown in Fig. 1 by a spring, D, that is coiled about the shank e, and abuts against the block 0 and the head-plate 0. At.
the inner end of each of the arms a there are formed projecting lugs h, having apertures i i, through which there are passed-screws j, in order that the device may be secured in a position beneath the lower outer corner of the door, so that the roller E will bear against the lower outer face of the door F, the roller 5 E being mounted on a vertical stud, 70, carried by the standard B.
I With such a roller as has been described the outer edge of the door will be held close against the side of the barn or other building to which the door is hung, and as the roller is yieldingly mounted it will give when encountering any irregularities in the face of the door caused by the warping or swelling of the material from which the door is formed, and it 5 will also give should any ice or snow accumulate between the door and the siding of the building; but from the construction described it will be seen that although the spring will allow the roller to move backward it will still 50 hold it firmly against the outer face of the door, thus forcing the outer edge of the door, when the door is closed, against the siding of the building.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by 1 Letters Patent, is
, 1. The combination, with a bracket, of a roller standard, B, a horizontally moving I roller thereon, the shank 0, extending through the bracket at right angles to the shank, and a spring on the shank having a bearing at the inner end of the said shank and on the crosspiece of the bracket to force the shank inward, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with a bracket formed with lugs h h and grooves or slots b, of a standard, B, and its shank e, a block, 0, formed with lugsff, arranged to ride in the groove b, a spiral spring, D, and'a roller, E, mounted upon a stud, 70, substantially as described.-
FRANK I. COLEMAN.
