Description

T LLoYD.- DOOR HANGER.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. 17, 1913.
Patented Nov. 25, 1913.
NITED STATES PATENT OFFIOE.
THOMAS LLOYD, 0F SHAMOKIN, PENNSYLVANIA.
DOOR-HANGER.
To all whom it' may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS LLOYD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Shamokin, in the county of Northumberland and State of Pennsylvania, have in` vented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Hangers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates in general to hangers for sliding doors, and specifically to the means of attaching the hanger to the sliding door.
An object of this invention is to provide a door hanger which shall be simple in con-- struction, cheap in manufact-ure, that shall be easily attached to and removed from the door and afford means for adjusting the door.
In the drawings illustrating the principle of this invention, and the best means now known to me of applying that principle: Figure 1 is a view in elevation embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the reinforcing plate. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the retaining plate.
In the drawings, 1 represents a guide way parallel to a track 2. A door 3 is hung on the track 2 by means of hanger arms 4, carrying at their upper ends rollers 5 rotatably mounted. The rollers 5 have a grooved tread formed with flanges which engage the sides of the track 2 and guideway 1. The lower ends of the arms of the hangers 4 are formed with multi-angular threaded shanks which extend through the upper edge of the door into the mortises 7.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. March 17, 1913.
Patented NOV. 25, 1913. Serial No. 754,976.
Plates 8 are countersunk in the upper edge 6 of the door 3, over the mortises 7, and are formed with perforations through which the Shanks of the hanger arms extend. Reinforcing plates 9 formed with central multi-angular bosses 10 and retaining brads 11 are attached to the inner upper edges of the mortises; said bosses embracing the shank of the hanger arm. Nuts 12 engage the threaded end of the hanger arm 4 and are set up tight against the reinforcing plate 9. Plates 13 close one side of the mortises and have retaining arms 14 and 15 which are arranged to engage the sides of the nuts 12 and prevent them from turning. Back plates 16 close the rear of the mortises. The plates 13 may be readily removed and access gained to the nuts 12 to adjust the hanger arms, and thereby level the door.
I claim:
The combination with a sliding door having a mortise formed in the upper edge thereof, of a hanger for the door provided with a shank extending into said mortise, a plate attached to the inner, upper surface of the mortise and formed with a boss for embracing said shank, an adjusting nut mounted on the shank and bearing against said plate, a plate closing one side of the mortise, and an arm extending laterally into fiaid mortise from the last mentioned plate for engaging the nut to lock vthe latter against reverse rotation.
In testimony whereof I aiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS LLOYD.
Witnesses:
