DOOR-HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 293,59@ dated February 12, 1884. Application filed November 7, 182. (No model.) I
To all whoml it may' concern.-
Beit known that I, JOSEPH E. SOHMID, of the city of Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Door-Hangers, of which the following is a specification. This invention relates to an improvemen in that class of door-hangers which are employed, for supporting sliding doors from the top, and which consist of rollers or wheels attached to the upper edge of the door in suitable bearings and running on horizontal rails.
The ob ect of my invention is to so construct the hanger that itA can be easily applied to the door. and adjusted, and that it is simple in construction.
My invention consists of the particularconstruction of the hanger, which will be hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.'
In the accompanying drawings, consisting of two sheets, Figure l is a section of one of my improved door-hangers. Fig. 2 is an elevation at right angles to Fig. l. Fig. Sis a perspective view of the hanger with the wheels removed. Figs. 4. and 5 represent modified constructions of the adjustable hanger-frame.
Like letters of reference referto like parts in the several iigures. l
A represents the upper portion of a sliding door, and B Bl the horizontal rails, arranged above the door in the usual manner.-
C C represent the wheels or rollers of the hanger, which are secured to a shaft, c, at the Iragper distance apart to run upon the rails D represents the frame of the hanger, which is secured with itslower end to the upper side of the door A, and provided at its upper end with a hook or half-bearing, d, which engages over the shaft c between the rollers C C. The frame D is located between the rails B B, and
composed of a plate, f, which is secured to the upper side of the door by screws f', and an upwardly-extending curved arm, g, which connects the plate f with the half-bearing d.
7L represents an inclined ear; which is arranged at the front end of the plate f, and 13 represents a screw-bolt, which extends in an inclined position from the ear h to the upper portion ofthe curved arm g of the frame. 'Ihe screw-bolt i is provided with a notched countersunk head, j, which bears against the outer side of the ear h,-and with a disk or washer, k, which bears against the inner side of the ear h, and which is held in position by a pin, Z. By this means thescrew-bolt is prevented from moving longitudinally in the ear, but is free to turn therein. The upper threaded portion, m, of the screw-bolt t' engages in a threaded hole in the arm g. The frame D of the hanger is constructed of wrought-iron or'otherv suitable metal which possessesthe requisite elasticity, so that upon turning the 'screw-bolt t' in one or the other direction the bearing el can be adj usted toward or from the ear h, whereby the portion of the door A to which the bearing is attached is raised or lowered, as maybe necessary to level or adjust the door.
o1, represents a roller, which is attached to the upper Vside of the plate f by means Aof a vertical screw-bolt, o, and which is somewhat larger in diameter than the width of the frame D, thereby preventing the frame from coming in contact with the inner sides of the railsB B.
My improved hanger is very simple in con struction, and possesses the requisite adjust-ai bility, which enables the door to be adjusted and leveled, and it is attached to the door very quickly and securely.
The upper corner of the door is preferably recessed, as represented in Figs-1 and 2, so as to permit a screw-driver to be ,applied to the head of the screw-bolt i.
Instead of constructing the frame of elastic metal, as herinbefore described, the arm g may be pivoted to the plate f, as represented in Figs. 4 and 5, and the screw-bolt t' may be applied in the same manner, Vas 'hereinbefore described, and represented in Fig. 4; or the arm g may be provided below its pivotwith an extension, p, and the screw-bolti may engage with its threaded end in a screw-threaded hole in the extension p, as represented in Fig. 5. Y
I claim as my invention- The combination, in a door hunger, of by the roller-bearngis adjusted, substantially Wheels or rollers C C, :L plate, f, secured to the as set forth.
l l door and provided with au ear, h, a movable i y l Y* 41 arm, g, provdedwith a bearing for the Wheels JOSEl H L' SCHMID' 5 and connected with the platef7 and a bolt, i, Vtnesses:
Connecting Ialle xed portion of the hanger- JNO. J. BONNER, frame with the movable arm gthereof, Where- CMAS. F. GEYER.
