DOOR-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 22, 1913.
Patented Apr. 7, 1914:. Serial No. 786,115.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ELMER L. WVILEY, a citizen of the United States, resident of Marion, in the county of Marion and State of Kansas, have made a certain new and useful Invention in Door-Hangers; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a central vertical longitudinal section of the invention as applied. Fig. 2 is a front view of the invention as applied.
The invention has relation to door hangers, wherein the door is capable both of a sliding longitudinal movement to open and close the doorway, and of an outward and inward movement at right angles to the longitudinal movement without and within a rabbeted or recessed seat of the door frame or marginal wall before and after the sliding movement in opening and closing.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combinations of parts, as here inafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating the invention the numeral 1, designates a straight horizontal track above the doorway, and 2 is the hanger having a wheel or wheels 2, running along said track. The door 3 is provided with a bracket 1, having an inner arm 5, secured to the door at 6, an outward extending arm 7, and an outer vertical arm 8, a horizontal rod 9, being secured to the door at its inner end and at its outer end being secured to the upper end of the vertical arm 8 of the bracket. The hanger 2 wherein the wheel 2' is journaled is provided with an outward and downward extending portion 10, the lower end of which is located within the space 11, between the vertical arm 8 of the bracket and the door, said end having opposed upper and lower rollers 12, 12, journaled therein in rolling contact with the rod 9, said rollers being disposed so that the rod will project between the same, in contact therewith and will lie at right angles to the axial plane thereof.
Normally the door is located within a recessed or rabbeted seat 13 of the door frame or of the marginal wall of the doorway, with the weight of the door resting upon the lower wall of said seat, and the rollers 12, located at the outer end of the space 11. Pivotal movement of the door is resisted by the upper and lower opposed rollers engaging the track rod 9. l/Vhen the door is to be opened, it is moved outward bodily from the seat 13, the weight of the door being then through the medium of the rod 9, thrown upon the rollers 12, and thereby upon the hanger proper 2, said rod moving outward with the door and the rollers turning in rolling contact with the rod for an easy antifriction movement, until the rollers are 10* cated at the inner end of the space 11. The door is then slid longitudinally in the usual manner to cause the hanger to travel upon the track and expose the doorway opening.
In closing the door, the operation is the same but reversed.
The invention is designed to provide a simple and strong durable hanger, easily applied, which will close the doorway against the entrance of wind and rain or snow, and is capable of easy operation.
hat I claim is In a door hanger, upper members each having a track roller, and a set of upper and lower opposed rollers having their axes at right angles to that of said track roller, and lower members adapted for rigid connection with the door and each carrying a track rod also adapted for rigid connection with the door and disposed at right angles to and located between and in contact with said opposed rollers, the two sets of op posed rollers cooperating with their track rods to resist pivotal. movement of the door, whereby the door is capable of being moved bodily inward and outward.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.

H. CONRAD, R. SVITAK.
