To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT R. MCDANIEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bayfield, in the county of La Plata and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Car-Doors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to door hangers, and has for its primary object to provide an improved mounting for the door whereby the same may be very easily and quickly moved to its open or closed position.
The invention has for one of its more particular objects to provide stationary and movabletrack sections for the door, said movable section being adapted for arrangement with relation to the stationary section, whereby the door can be shifted longitudinally upon the latter section of thetrack, said movable track section upon which the door is mounted, when in its normal position, supporting the door within the plane of the body wall of the barn or other structure.
It is a further object of the invention to produce a door mounting which is durable and serviceable in its construction, and may be readily applied to the barn or other building without necessitating any material alterations therein.
With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,

bracket members 8 are secured to the outer faceof the car wall, and in these bracket members, the ends of the stationary track section 9 are mounted or secured, said track section, in the illustrated embodiment of my invention, being in the form of a cylindrical metal rod. The bracket member 8 which is located farthest from the edge of the door opening, is provided with an upwardly projecting stop lug 10, for a purpose which will later be clearly apparent. v
To the side posts, adjacent the upper end of the door opening, the sectors 11 are pivotally mounted at one of their ends, as indicated at 12, for swinging movement. These sectors are preferably of skeletonized construction for the sake of lightness, and at their upper wider ends, are provided with the curved or arcuate slots 13 in which the stop pins 14, fixed to the side posts of the door opening, extend. It will be observed that sections are cut out of the vertically disposed stop cleats 7 on the door post to accommodate these sectors and permit of their swinging movement. Each of the sectors is provided upon its forward edge and at its upper end with a laterally projecting pin or stud, indicated at 15, which is adapted to fit into a socket in one end of the movable track section 16, said track section being securely held in connection with. said pins or studs by means of the key pins 17 Upon this bodily movable track section 16, at one end thereof, a sleeve is fixed, which is provided with a stop lug or finger 18.

These rollers are mounted upon the track rod 16 so as to permit of the sliding movement of the door in one position thereof. Locking rods 22 are movable in suitable guides, indicated at 23, on the inner face of the door, said rods being of relatively different lengths, as shown, and having their corresponding ends pivotally connected, as at 24, to the opposite ends of a link or plate25 which is fixed upon one endof a bolt 26 rotatably mounted in the body of the car-door 19. The outer ends of the rods 23 are adaptedto project beyond the opposite vertical edges of the door and fit into openings or sockets provided in the vertically disposed cleats 7 on the door post. Upon the outer end of the bolt 26, a horizontally disposed plate 27 is fixed, upon which a suitable handle tural features of my invention, the operation of the same will be understood as follows: Referring particularly to Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawing, it willbe noted that, when the door is-in its closed position with the side and top edges abutting against the cleats 7, the door is disposed within the plane of the wall and the outer faces of said door and wall are flush so that no part of the door projects beyond the door opening to afford an obstruction. The movable track section 16 is, of course, disposed between the door posts and out of alinement with the stationary track section 9 while the stop pins 14 are engaged in the outer ends of the slots 13 provided in the sectors 11. The
, locking rods 23 being engaged at their outer ends in the sockets of the cleats 7 and the hasp 29 latched to the staple 30, it will be seen that the door is securely held in its closed position. When it is desired to move the door to its open position, the hasp is disengaged from the staple 30 and swung outwardly from its hinged end and the hand loop 28 then graspedand'tu'rned, thus rotating the rod or spindle 26 to withdraw the lockin rods 23 from the sockets in the cleats The door is then pulled outwardly by means of the handle loop 28, the sectors 11 swinging upon their pivoted ends until such outward swinging movements is stopped or limited by the pins 14 engaging in the inner ends of the slots 13. When in this position, the movable track section 16 will be in axial alinement with the stationary track section 9 on the outer face of the wall. lhe door may now be shifted or rolled from the track section 16 upon the stationary track section 9 and disposed at one side of the door opening, such sliding movement of the door being limited by the upstanding finger 10 on the bracket member 8. It is, of course, understood that in moving the door to its closed. position, the same is simply moved or rolled upon the stationary track section to the movable track section and the door then pushed inwardly into the I opening 6 until the same engages against thestop cleats 7 lhe locking rods 23 are now shifted to their locking positions so that the door is again tightly closed.

it is believed that the construction, manner of operation-and several advantages of my invention will be clearly and fully under- I stood. It will be seen that I have produced a very simple, durable and highly serviceable door mounting or hanger which will permit of the easy and quick sliding move ment of the door to its open or closed position, and when in the latter position, effectually and tightly close the door opening to exclude the entrance of dust, dirt or rain to the interior of the barn. As the track section upon which the door is mounted and supported, when in its closed position, is disposed entirely within the door opening in the inner face of the door, the same is not liable to injury by objects striking against the same, as is often the case when the door hanger is disposed upon the outer face of the wall and the door. It is, of course, apparent that, in the practical development of my invention, it might be found advisable to employ tracks of various forms and other means for mounting the door thereon than that above referred to, and such changes in the track structure per 86 are, therefore, to be considered within the purview of the present invention. Neither is the invention limited-to the specific type of locking means for the door illustrated in the accompanying drawing, but various other devices. for securely holdingthe door in closed position within the door opening maybe employed. It is, consequentlypto be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to these proportion, and arrangement of the several elements which may be fairly embodied within the spirit and scope of the invention 11 as claimed.
