CAR-DOOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 792,040, dated June 13, 1905. Application filed April 24, 1905. Serial N- 257,160.
To @ZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AMES M. HorKINs,a citizen or' the United States, and a resident of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Car-Doors, of which the following is a speciiication and which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
This invention relates to metal car-doors for use in connection with box-cars; and its object is to provide a car-door formed of sheet metal, the body of the door being prolonged and overturned and serving as a housing for the rollers.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying' drawings, in which- Figure l shows a front elevation or' the door, a portionof the side of a car being shown in l detail. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line Q 2 of Fig. l; and Fig. 3 is a detail plan section of the side of the car, taken immediately above the door, the latter being shown in plan.
The door lO is constructed of sheet metal, I preferably of a single plate, and its Lipper end l is overturned inwardly, as shown at ll, to form a housing within which the usual rollers l2 are journaled, such rollers running on a track 13, secured to the An angle-plate l5 is secured across the inner face of the door lO and so positioned as to stand adjacent the under face of the track 13 l side 14 of the car.
and serves to prevent the accidental of the rollers l2.
The trunnions of the rollers l2 are preferably journaled directly in the stock of the door itself, suitable apertures being formed therein to receive the same. The margins of the door may be given any desired finish or may be left entirely without finish, as shown in the drawings.
vWedge-blocks 16 may be attached to the outer Jface of the door at its lower edge for engaging the bottom cleats 17 to force the door inwardly as it reaches the closed position.
I claim as my inventionl. Aear-door formed of sheet metal and having its upper edge overturned inwardly, and rollers journaled within the housing thus formed.
2. A car-door formed of sheet metal having its upper edge overturned inwardly, and rollers having their trunnions journaled within the body of the door and its overturned edge.
3. Acar-door formed of sheet metal and having its upper' edge overturned inwardly, rollers journaled Within the housing' thus formed, and a stop-plate secured across the inner face of the door and spaced apart from the tread of the rollers to accommodate a track.
