L. E. FOURNIER.
DOOR HANGER. APPLICATION FILED MAY 19, 1913.
Patented Dec. 30, 1913.
4 COLUMBIA PLANDGRAPH 20.,WASHINGTON, D, :4
LOUIS EUGENE FOURNIER, OF MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA.
DOOR-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 19, 1913.
Patented Dec. 30, 1913. Serial No. 768,496.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LoUIs EUGENE FOUR- NIER, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and resident of 618 St. Joseph Boulevard, in the city and District of Montreal, Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door- Hangers; and I do hereby declare that the followin is afull, clear, and exact descrip tion of the same.
The invention relates to improvements in door hangers as described in the present specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings that form part of the same.
The invention consists essentially of the novel arrangement and construction of parts, whereby the door is suspended by trolley wheels housed and journaled in bearings furnishing a limited horizontal movement for the wheel trunnions and the sliding of said door further facilitated by an under wheel supported in bearings substantially similar trunnions.
The objects of the invention are to facilitate the sliding of suspended doors, particularly in railway cars, to avoid any binding effect caused by any unnecessary strain due to rough usage, to cheapen the construction in such articles, and generally to provide a simple, efficient and durable door hanger.
In the drawings, Figure l is a plan view of the hanger from the inner side. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the hanger showing it assembled with the door and track. Fig. 3 is a perspective detail of the bracket and bearing supporting the under wheel.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
Referring to the drawings, 1 is the plate having the lugs 2 and 3 and the bolt holes 1 and 5 through said lugs, said plate being secured to the upper end portion of the door.
6 is a bracket integral with the plate 1 and preferably rectangular, having the ends 7 standing out from the plate and the front side 8 joining said ends and the stiffening bar 9 extending from the side 8 to the plate 1 across the open bottom end of the'bracket, said front side 8 having the longitudinal slot 10 thereinto from the top edge rounded at each corner 11.
12 is a recess in the plate 1 opposite the slot 10 and of equal length, said recess being movement of the wheel permitting a,
reached by the vertical opening 13 leading from the cross channel 14 at the upper end of the said plate, the plate 1 at each end of said channel being rounded off to facilitate the sliding of the door.
15 is a housing supported from the inwardly extending flange 16 at the top of the plate 1, said housing, flange and plate being reinforced by the vertical back ribs 17.
18 is a horizontal recess in the wall of the housing 15 opposite the horizontal recess 19 in the other wall, both recesses being reached by vertical recesses 20 and 21 respectively from the lower end of the said housing.
22 is a trolley wheel inserted into the horizontal recesses 18 and 19 and having fixed trunnions 23 bearing on the upper walls of said recesses and adapted to travel freely from one end to the other.
26 is a roller having the fixed trunnions 24: inserted through vertical opening 13 and into .the slot 10, said trunnions having free movement from one end to the other of said slot 10 and said recess 12.
25 is a track showing the application of the hanger.
It will now be seen that the upper wheel forming the trolley will bear on the top of the track while the under wheel or roller engages the bottom of the track at such times, as there is the least binding effect, thereby insuring the continuous easy running of the trolley wheel' The freedom secured by the loose journaling of the two wheels, that is to say, the trolley and the roller, prevents any chance of breakage of the Wheel trunnions and at the same time facilitates the travel of the door.
It must be understood that the exact arrangement of Wheels as shown may not be adhered to, nor is it necessary to limit the it number of wheels used.
It will be noticed that the bearing for the under wheel or roller is beneath the flange l6 and therefore out of alinement with the trolley wheel, and while it may have been known before to have under wheels or rollers and to place them out of alinement with the trolley wheel or wheels, it is the best practice and within any ones right to use.
What I claim is A hanger comprising a plate having a trolley wheel mounting at the upper end thereof, and having intermediate of the llo Signed at the city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, this thirteenth day of May, 1913.
LOUIS EUGENE FOURNIER.
height thereof a horizontal groove and a bracket formed ofthree sides, the outer side being parallel with the plate and having an open slot of equal length with said groove and parallel therewith, a roller having an Witnesses: axle rigid therewith and projecting into said THOMAS DORIAN, slot and groove and traveling therein.
