My invention is especially adapted for use in a window sash as commonly used in auto- Y mobiles, although it may be used in any location.
rl`he object of my invention is a device which is cheap in construction, will occupy little room, and will fully serve the purpose for which it is designed.
The accompanying drawing will serve to illustrate my invention, in which Figure'1 is a perspective view of a window jamb (in dotted lines), a window frame and sash, and the lifting, lowering and securing device with the sash shown in the half open position.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section through one of the frames, showing the lifting, lowering and securing device in elevation with the window sash in the open position.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the line III-III of Fig. 1.

Fig. 5 is a detail view showing the position of the device when the sash is being raised.
Referring to the drawings; 5 indicates a window glass such as commonly used in automobiles. The glass is mounted in a channeled frame 6, the channel being closed at the bottom 7 to support the glass. The channeled frame 6 carrying the glass 5, is located, and adapted to move, in vertical channels 8 inthe side frames 9. The side frames 9 may be formed of metal or wood, and are adapted to be attached to the window j amb 10 by screws 11. The side frames 9 have an inwardly projecting member 12, shaped to form the channels 8 on the inner surface. The projecting members 12 of frames 9 are cut away at 13, and in the side frames opposite to the part 13 cut away, are spaced recesses 14. 15 indicates a catch.
vThis catch consists of two members 16-17.
The member 16 has formed on its inner end, an elongated rectangular block 18, which is secured to the frame 6 by the screws 19-20. Themember 17 is pivoted to the member 16 at 21, and is shaped on its lower end to form a point 22, adapted to coact with the recesses 14 in the frame '9. ySituated between the members 16-17, is a'spring` 23. The scour-- ing screw 20 projects outwardly from the Vblock 18, so that when the members 16-17 are brought together, the end of the member 17 will bear upon the side of the screw 20 and thus prevent further compression of the spring 23. Instead of securing the mem-l ber 16 to the frame 6 by screws, it may be secured in any other manner, as by electric welding. Instead of providing a separate screw 20, the block 18 maybe shaped to provide apart against which the end 22 of the member 17 will coact when the members 16-17 are broughty together.
The projecting members 12 fof frames 9 are provided with vertical channels 24 in which a curtain 25, shown by dotted lines in` Itl F 3, may have` vertical movement. will be seen that by Vplacing the catches on the sides of the sash instead of in front, as
is usually done, the, curtain can be placed close to the sash.
The operation of my device will be readily understood. When it is desired to raise or lower the sash, the catches on each side are compressed.V This releases the point 22 from the recesses 14 with which they are engaged, and the sash can be raised or lowered and secured in any position through/ the point 22 of the catch coperating with any of the recesses 14.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A device of the character described, comprising a window frame having side frames provided with channels in their 0pposing faces in which a window sash may have vertical movement, also recesses in tue rear of said side frames and slots in the front face of the side frames; catches for raising and lowering the sash, each catch consisting of two members, one member connected to the sash and the other member pivotally connected to the first member and adapted to coact with one recess in the rear of the side frame.
2. A device of the character described, comprising a window frame having side frames'provided with opposingly Vdisposed.
channels in Which a Window sash may have vertical movement, also recesses in the back of said side' frames and slots in the frontl of the side frames; catches consisting of two members, one member connected to the sash and the other member pivoted to the first member and both members extending through the slot, the pivoted memberadapt-f ed to co-act with one of the surfaces of the recess at the back of the side frame.
