The invention relates to.a mounting for win-. dow sashes and more especially to a reversible window.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a window of this character, wherein its upper and lower sashes are supported by the usual sliding movements and additionally are susceptible of being turned or reversed so that easy access may be had to the glass constituting the panes of the sashes so that the window can be cleaned with dispatch and without hazard both at the outside and inside thereof.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a window of this character, wherein the pivotal mounting of the sashes can be had at different points, in that the mountings for the sashes are adjustable to vary the axes of motion of such sashes on the swinging or turning thereof.
A further object of the invention is the pro vision of a window of this character, wherein the sashes can be moved through sliding action to any desired position or angularly set under swinging movements thereof in that the sashes are supported for vertical swinging and sliding movements both for cleaning purposes'and for ventilation.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a window of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and effective in its operation, strong, durable and inexpensive to manufacture and install.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which disclose the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

Interfitting the member H is an adjustable or shiftablepivot plate 20' having bent therefrom a longitudinal center ridge 2I carrying intermediately thereof a pivot stud 22 while at opposite sides of the ridge are grooves 23, these being parallel with the ridge and accommodate guide flanges 24 cut and bent from the member II to provide a slot 25 at the longitudinal center of said member effecting a way for the pivot stud 22 which projects therethrough when the plate 29 is adjustably interfitted with this member II. The plate 20 in opposite side edges thereof has the notches 26, these accommodating keeper projections 21 struck from the member II at opposite sides of the slot 25 therein and in spaced relation to each other so that the pivot plate 20 can be interlocked with the member II by the projections 21 fitting the notches 26. Thus it will be seen that the plate 29 is susceptible of adjustment in the member II longitudinally thereof for locating the pivot stud 22 at the desired place for pivotal mounting of the sash.
Adapted to be located between the members I I and I2 is a latching disk 28 having the central opening 29 for the pivot stud 22 and concentrically of this opening 29 are the holes 36 for receiving latching lugs 3I struck outwardly from the pivot plate 26 so that on the turning of the sash upon the stud 22 fitting the hole 29 the said sash can be latched in an angularly turned position. This disk 28 carries a yoke 32 which protrudes through a slot 33 formed centrally and longitudinally directed in the member I2, the slot being provided with the guide flanges 34 at opposite sides of the yoke 32. The ends of the yoke 32 are formed with offset eyes 35 for the sash cord and weight (not shown), the cordbeing adapted for fastening to one of the eyes 35. The other eye 35 is only to provide for interchangeability from the right hand side to the left hand side accordingly to the mounting of the disk 28 on the assembly of the device with a window sash.
The disk 28 is formed with the ribs 36 in spaced parallel relation to each other and engaged with a track formation 31 provided on the member I2 to relieve the strain upon the yoke 32 under pivotal action of the sash as the disk 28 will be prevented from turning with the sash. The fitting of the yoke 32 in the slot 33 augments the ribs 36 to assist in the preventing of the turning of the disk on pivotal movement of the sash.
Interfitting the member I2 is an adjustable carrier plate 38, it having the outstruck rib center portion 39 for accommodating the flanges 34 at opposite sides of the slot 33 in said member I2. This plate 38 also has formed therewith latching arms 46, these being provided with latching seats M for accommodating keeper projections 42 provided on the side flanges 43 of the member I2 so that this plate 38 may be latched in adjusted position on longitudinal displacement within the member I2. The plate 38 has an opening 44 for the pivot stud 22, which latter has separably fastened therewith a ratchet pinion 45 seating about the said stud a coiled tapered tensioning spring 46, the latter being also seated against the plate 38 so that close contact is assured in the interfitting of the parts of the mounting when assembled and the member I I fixed with the sash and the member I2 slidably fitting the groove or channel I0 in the window frame or casing.
The plate 38 also is formed with the seats 48 for projections 49 struck from the member I2 for a further latching of the plate 38 when interfitted with the said member I2.
-- The spring 46 under its seating has tension against the plate 38, the smallest coil of this spring being of a size to permit tension to be exerted directly against the plate 38 so that the latter will be friction tight against the member I2 and also the latter against the member II.
Carried upon the sash are slidable locking bolts 50, these being arranged at opposite sides of the sash and each is engageable in a keeper hole I provided in the latching disk 28. These bolts 50 function to latch or look the window sash in perpendicular position and against pivotal swinging movements, the bolts being thrown into locking position when the sash is perpendicular so that it may be raised and lowered under sliding action within the window frame in the customary manner.
At intervals along one flange I3 of the member II are mounted spaced locking pins 52, these selectively engageable in the notch 26 next thereto in the pivot plate 20 for the locking of the same in a shifted position when interfitted in the said member I I, these pins 52 being hand released and are spring seated.
The pivot studs 22 can be readily and easily altered as to their location for the change of the swinging axis of the sash and by the pivotal mounting of such sash the window sash glass or panes are readily accessible at either side thereof so that the glass or pane can be cleaned in a convenient manner without danger or inconvenience to a cleaner. Also the sash is susceptible of adjustment either through sliding or swinging actions for ventilating purposes.
The ratchet pinion 45 has formed peripherally thereof ratchet teeth 53, these coacting with the projections 4| of the latching arms 40 of the plate 38 to hold the pinion relative to the stud 22 to which the same is separably attached, the pinion being held against wobbling movement as it fits a squared portion 54 on the stud 22, the said pinion being provided with a center opening companion to the squared portion 54.
Located in the channel In in the window frame for the member I2 close to each end of the latter are retaining washers 55 for engaging the said member I2 to maintain it in the channel as is clearly shown in Figure 12 of the drawings.
Fitted in each member I2 is a locking device which comprises a pair of pivotally supported cam-like jaws 56, these having the serrated or biting edges 51 which engage with the side Walls of the channel I0 in the window frame so as to hold the member I2 immovable when the sash has been swung from perpendicular position in the window frame. These jaws 56 are eccentrically pivoted at 58 and through spring levers 59 are automatically controlled by a push button 60 suitably fitted in the member I2 and working through an opening 6| therein for engaging the window sash when the latter has been swung to perpendicular position so that the jaws 56 will be automatically released and thus such sash is free for vertical sliding movement within the window frame. When the button 60 is out of contact with the sash C the jaws 56 are engaged with the window frame and thus the members I2 will be held fast when the sash is being swung angularly or from perpendicular position. These jaws 56 when engaging the window frame hold the members I2 in the same plane with each other at opposite sides of said window frame so that one member I 2 will not be higher than the other when the sash is being swung vertically within the window frame.
Again with reference to the washers 55 for engaging the said members I2 these will serve to prevent the said members l2 from coming out of the track or the groove or channel within the window frame when the sash will be adjusted to a horizontal position and especially when pressure is exerted on one side more than the other so that these washers will keep the alignment of the device at any adjusted position, there being no less than four of the washers in each track and the same are located at suitable distances from each other so that they will always be working.
It is to be understood, of course, that changes, variations and modifications may be made in the structure as fall properly within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
What is claimed is:
1. In a window, a frame having a slide groove, a sash fitting said frame, a pair of channeled members fitting the sash and said groove, respectively, a pivot plate interfitting the member upon the sash and adjustable thereon, a pivot stud carried by the plate, a latching disk interposed between the members and receiving said pivot stud, an adjustable carrier plate interfitting the other member and receiving the pivot stud, means for latching the pivot plate adjusted with relation to said member interfitted therewith and means for latching the carrier plate adjusted with relation to the member interfitted therewith.

In a window, a frame having a slide groove, a sash fitting said frame, a pair of channeled members fitting the sash and said groove, respectively, a pivot plate interfitting the member upon the sash and adjustable thereon, a pivot stud carried by the plate, a latching disk interposed between the members and receiving said pivot stud, an adjustable carrier plate interfitting the other member and receiving the pivot stud, means for latching the pivot plate adjusted with relation to said member interfitted therewith, means for latching the carrier plate adjusted with relation to the member interfitted therewith and a latching bolt carried by the sash and engageable with the latching disk to lock the sash against swinging movement.

In a window, a frame having a slide groove, a sash fitting said frame, a pair of channeled members fitting the sash and said groove, respectively, a pivot plate interfitting the member upon the sash and adjustable thereon, a pivot stud carried by the plate, a latching disk interposed between the members and receiving said pivot stud, an adjustable carrier plate interfitting the other member and receiving the pivot stud, means for latching the pivot plate adjusted with relation to said member interfitted therewith, means for latching the carrier plate adjusted with relation to the member interfitted therewith, a latching bolt carried by the sash and engageable with the latching disk to lock the sash against swinging movement and a yoke carried by the disk for attachment of a sash counterbalanced weight cord therewith.

In a window, a frame having a slide groove, a sash fitting said frame, a. pair of channeled members fitting the sash and said groove, respectively, a pivot plate interfitting the member upon the sash and adjustable thereon, a pivot stud carried by the plate, a latching disk interposed between the members and receiving said pivot stud, an adjustable carrier plate interfitting the other member and receiving the pivot stud, means for latching the pivot plate adjusted with rela tion to-said member interfitted therewith, means for latching the carrier plate adjusted with relation to the member interfitted therewith, a latching bolt carried by the sash and engageable with the latching disk to lock the sash against swinging movement, a yoke carried by the disk for attachment of a sash counterbalanced weight cord therewith and means connected with the pivot stud for tensioning the plates and the members in their interfitted relation to each other.
