Description

O. NIETZEL COMBINATION CURTAIN AND SHADE HOLDER May 8, 1923. I 1,454,557
Filed Sept. 9, 1921 "161 //15/ I x I 17 jp I 7: 7 h f INVENTOH ATTORNEY Patented May 8, i923.
" insets-- OSWALD NIE'IZEL, 01E ELIZABETH, NEW JERSEY.
COMBINATION CURTAIN AND SHADE HOLDER.
Application filed September To aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, OswALn Nm'rznL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elizabeth, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Curtain and Shade Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to combination curtain and shade hangers and has for its principal object the provision of a device adapted to support one or more shades and which can be readily adjusted to suit the difierent widths of the shades now commonly sold on the market.
Another object is to provide a curtain bar holder also capable of adjustment for the similar reason mentioned heretofore.
These and other objects will become apparent in the description to follow inwhich characters of reference refer to like-named parts in the drawing.
Referring briefly to the drawings, Figure 1 represents an application of the device and shows the latter in position on a window sash.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the device and shows the relation of the different parts.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same.
Figure & is a similar side elevation of the device looking from the shade holder end.
Referring more in detail to the drawing the numeral 10 indicates the upper member of a common type of sash having the side framing members indicated at 11.
Secured to the sash members 10 are the base plates 12 deformed at 13 to form recesses 14 on the underside thereof: Holes 15 are provided at the center of each of the deformed sections and are adapted to receive screws 15 therein the latter threadabiy engaging the sash.
Slidably mounted in one of therecesses 14 on each base plate is a vertically disposed plate member 16 similarly deformed so as to form horizontally disposed recesses 17 i. which are slidably mounted guide members 18 each having one end thereof bent outwardly to form a circular member 19 from which the usual type of shade 25 is suspended. Hole 19 is provided in one of the members 19 while the member 19 on the opposite side of the sash has a slot 19 therein. It is to be understood that these holes are of the usual type necessitated by the con- 9, 1921. Serial No. 499,427.
struction of the present day Window shades whichgenerally have a pin at one end, for which the hole 19 is provided, while at the opposite end a pin in the form of a key member which must remain fixed. F or this reason the slot is provided as indicated at 19".
Plate members 20 preferably of some resilient material, are secured to the underside member .16 by rivets 20. The opposite ends of the said plate members 20 areadapted to engage the underside of member 18 and keep the latter in frictional contact in the recesses 17, but readily yielding in either direction to pressure applied to any of the members 19. It is obvious from the foregoing that slight variation in the widths of shades can be corrected for by this adjustment. Slots 21 in the upper ends of the plate members 1-6 are provided so that vertical adjustment of the latter can be made when finally levelling the shade. After the latter has been levelled the screw 15 is drawn down to secure the entire device'in the desired position.
Members having curved ends 22 formcradies for usual type of curtain holder bar 23 and have opposite ends thereof turned downward to'for n tongues 2% adapted to be inserted into any of the vacant recesses 14 as the length of the curtain pole may require.
From the entire description it is to be understood that one or two shades can be suspended between a pair of brackets and the various parts can be interchanged or reversed as requirements may define.
I claim:
A. combined curtain and shade holder comprising a base plate adapted to be securedto a window sash, said plate bearing recesses on its underside, adapted to engage interchangeably in any a pole support of saidrecesses, a plate member adapted to slidably and interchangeably engage in of said recesses, said plate member having on its underside similar recesses, shade supports slidably engaging, in the recesses of said plate member, a resilient plate member secured to the underside of said plate memher with its ends respectively overlying the recesses in said plate member and yieldably engaging the underside of said shade support to retain the latter in said recesses.
In witness whereof I mix my signature:
OSWVALD NIETZEL.
