ATTORNEYS JOHN EYNON BOSLER, OF OLEAN, NEW YORK.
CURTAIN-FIXTURE.
Application filed September 14, 1907.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 29, 1908.
Serial No. 392,952.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN EYNON BOSLER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Olean, in the county of Cattaraugus and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Curtain-Fixture, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to curtain fixtures, and is particularly useful in connection with windows, door-ways, and the like.
An object of the invention is to provide a simple, strong and inexpensive curtain fixture which provides means for supporting curtain poles and shade rollers.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the class described for holding and supporting curtain poles and shade rollers, and adapted to be adjusted to permit its use in connection with curtain poles and shade rollers of different sizes.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts to be more fully described hereinafter and particularly set forth in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation of the upper portion of a window, showing my invention ap plied thereto; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the fixture; and Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Before proceeding to a more detailed explanation of my invention, it should be understood that it is customary to hang curtains at Windows and the like by means of curtain poles supported upon brackets secured near the upper part of the window framing. At the same time the shade-supporting roller which is arranged on the inside of the curtain, that is, between the window and the curtain, is also carried in suitable sockets or bearings for projecting pins ex tending from the ends of the roller.
My invention comprises essentially, a supporting plate, which may be secured to the window framing in any suitable manner, for instance by means of screws, and an arm and a bracket adj ustably mounted upon the plate and serving respectively to hold the curtain pole and the shade roller near one end of each. A similar supporting plate is provided for holding the pole and the roller at the other ends of the same. As the holding arm and the holding bracket are adjustably mounted, as will appear more clearly hereinafter, upon each of the supporting plates, the fixtures can be used in connection with curtain poles and shade rollers of different sizes, by suitably arranging the adjustable parts.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, Fig. 1 represents awindow having my invention applied thereto. The window 1 may be of any common or special form. It will be understood, furthermore, that my invention is applicable not only to windows, but to door-ways, alcoves and the like, and can be used at other places where curtains or shades are usually hung. The window 1 has the usual window frame 2, at each side of which is secured a supporting plate 3 of my fixtures. The supporting plate 3 may be of stamped or cast metal or any other suitable material and is provided with openings 4 therethrough which are adapted to receive screws or nails for mounting the support in place. Near the upper edge, each supporting plate has pairs of notches or recesses 5, and near the lower edge a series of similar and parallel slots 6, for purposes which will appear hereinafter.
I provide curtain pole arms 7 fashioned from metal or other suitable material and bifurcated at one end. At the opposite end, the arms are curved in order to receive the curtain pole A and hold the same firmly. At the bifurcated ends, the arms are provided with fingers 8 and shoulders 9; the fingers are formed to engage at the lower edges of the recesses 5 with the shoulders 9 abutting against the face of the supporting plate. In this way the arms are removably and adjustably mounted upon the supporting plate. It will be understood that each pair of notches 5 serves for the mounting of the arms 7 in one position upon the supporting plate. The fingers 8 hold the arms against outward movement with respect to the plate, and the shoulders 9 support the arms in an extended position.
Each of the supporting plates is provided with a bracket 10 consisting of a strip bent upon itself to form a bifurcated arm which is provided near one end with a notch 11. At the opposite end, the bifurcated bracket is provided with notches 12 near the lower edges forming fingers 12. The bracket is arranged to be mounted upon the supporting plate with the ends inserted in adjacent slots 6, the notches 12 engaging at the lower edges of the slots and fingers 12 at the back of the plate. The notch 11 near the outer end of the bracket serves to receive one of the pins at the ends of the shade rollerB as is shown most clearly in Fig. 1. As each of the supporting plates is provided with a plurality of slots 6, the brackets 10 can be arranged in a number of positions, thereby permitting the use of the fixture in connection with shade rollers varying considerably in length.
Having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a device of the class described, a sup- 3 porting plate adapted to be secured to a window frame and having a plurality of notches therethrough, and a bifurcated arm adapted to hold a curtain pole and provided with fingers and shoulders, said fingers being arranged to project'through notches of said plate to engage said plate, said shoulders being arranged to abut against said plate when said arm is in position.
2. In a device of the class described, a supporting plate adapted to be secured to a window frame and having a plurality of openings therethrough, and a bracket formed from a stri bent upon itself and having means for holcing a shade roller, said bracket having fingers each adapted operatively to engage one of said slots and to project therethrough l to the back of said plate when said bracket is mounted in position.
3. In a device of the class described, a supii; porting plate adapted to be secured to a window frame and having a plurality of notches at the upper edge, and an arm curved to hold a curtain pole and having separated portions, each provided with a finger and a shoulder, each of said fingers being arranged to project through one oi said notches to engage at the back of said plate, said shoulders being arranged to abut against said plate when said arm is mounted in position.
4:. In a device of the class described, a supporting plate adapted to be secured to a window frame and having a plurality of openings therethrough, an arm formed to receive and hold a curtain pole and provided with a finger and a shoulder, said finger being arranged to engage one of said openings and said shoulder being arranged to abut against said plate when said arm is mounted in position, and a bracket formed to receive a shade roller and having a finger adapted operatively to engage another of said openings to hold said bracket in position, said fingers being arranged to project through said openings to engage at the back of said plate.
5. In a device of the class described, a sup porting plate adapted to be secured to a window frame and having a plurality of notches and a plurality of slots, an arm formed to receive and hold a curtain pole and provided with a finger and a shoulder, said finger being arranged to engage one of said notches and said shoulder being arranged to abut against said plate when said arm is mounted in position, and a bracket having a notch formed to receive a shade roller and a finger adapted operatively to engage one of said slots to hold said bracket in'position.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
J. EYNON BOSLER.
