To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, AUSTIN S. SHEPARD, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of San Diego, county of San Diego, and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Shade and Curtain Pole Hangers, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to hangers to be mounted on the sides of the window-casing for holding both the shade and curtain poles, or either of them, and more particularly those which are adjustable so that different length poles may be used without cutting or fitting the same, and the objects of my invention are, first, to provide hangers the holding parts of which are adjustable so as to facilitate the placing of the poles, second, to provide such hangers that are simple, easily installed,'easily adjusted and present a pleasing appearance to the eye, and third, to provide such hangers that are easily constructed.

ith these and other objects in View, as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the ap pended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference thereon, which form a part of this specification, in which:

Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.

The hanger supports 1, shade hanger 2, shade hanger 3 and curtain hangers 4, constitute the principal parts of my device.

The supports 1 are shaped as shown best in Fig. 2, the middle portion being raised relatively to the edges as shown best in Fig. 4. They are provided with a plurality of holes 1 adapted for screws for attaching them to the window-casing and they are provided centrally with slots 1', the upper and lower edges of which are provided with a plurality of notches 1 and 1, the notches marked 1 in. the top portion being considerably deeper than those marked 1 in the lower portion. These supports are the same for both sides of the window-casing. Each of these is provided with a curtain hanger 4 shaped as shown best in Figs. 2

and 6. They are preferably constructed of metallic sheet and provided with a circular notch 4 adapted for the curtain pole. At the other end of the curtain hanger 4 the metal is bent at right angles a portion in one direction, marked 4", and the other portion in the opposite direction, marked 4. This is shown best by the dotted lines in Figs. 1 and 2. They are adapted to fit into the slot 1 so that the edges extend into the notches in the support 1 and the portion 4 and 4 hold the hanger in its position in the support, but it may be moved from one notch to the other by raising the hanger 4into the top notch when the lower portion may be moved to the next notch, or several notches if desired, then inserted in the top notch again and the lower edge moved to the notch opposite to the one in which the top edge is inserted.

The shade hangers 2 and 3 are constructed the same as the supporting end but are shorter and one of them is provided with a round hole, which is marked 2* for the purpose of illustration, and the other provided with a narrow notch 3* adapted for the usual shade pole.

Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts, I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement, but desire to include in the purview of my invention the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.

It is obvious that with this construction there are provided shade and curtain pole hangers the hanging portion of each of which may be adjusted in the supports; that they may be adjusted at both ends; that the construction consists of metallic sheet throughout, thus making the construction simple; that the device is readily adjustable, but will not readily get out of order, that the device may be used for shades only or for curtains only, or for both shades and curtains.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. In shade and curtain pole hangers, the combination of two supporting plates each provided with a Central slot therein, a plurality of notches in the top edge of said slot, a plurality of shallower notches in the bottom edge thereof, a curtain pole hanger consisting of a metallic piece provided with oppositely disposed flanges at right angles thereto at the supporting end thereof mounted in each slot with its upper and lower edges engaging said slot, said curtain pole hanger being narrower than the slot, and 0p positely disposed notches whereby said curtain pole hanger may be raised in one of said notches and its lower edge moved to another notch.

2. In shade and curtain pole hangers, the combination of two supporting plates each provided with a central slot therein, a plurality of notches in the top edge of said slot, a plurality of shallower notches in the bottom edge thereof, a curtain pole hanger consisting of a metallic piece provided with oppositely disposed flanges at right angles thereto at the supporting end thereof mounted in each slot with its upper and lower edges engaging said slot, said curtain pole hanger being narrower than the slot, oppositely disposed notches whereby said curtain Copies of this patent may be obtained for the upper and lower edges of said slot, the

upper notches being considerably deeper than the lower one, a metallic shade pole'hanger and a metallic curtain pole hanger made in one piece, each provided with oppositely disposed lugs integral therewith on the sup porting ends of said shade and curtain pole hangers and each of such width adjacentto its position in the notches in said slotin said metallic plate whereby each may be moved from one slot to the other by raising the same into the upper slot, then moving the lower edge to another slot, then moving the upper edge to the slot opposite thereto. 7
