WINDOVI FT X'IURE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLns P. KELLY and THOMAS J. SHERIDAN, citizens of the United States, residing, respectively, at West Telford Borough, in the county of Montgomery, and at Wilkes-Barre, in the county of Luzerne, both in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window Fixtures, of which the following is a specification.
Principal objects of our invention are to provide a simple, inexpensive yet ornamental window fixture formed as a unitary shade roller support and curtain or drapery hanger which will stay put without the aid of nails, screws or kindred pointed fastenings; to provide a device of the character indicated which will take a flush bearing against the window frame or cornice and which is so formed that the element which supports the curtain or drapery pole will overhang the shade roller supporting element or bracket; and to provide a device of the character indicated which is constructed from a substantially rectangular blank of sheet metal having a part struck up to form a shade roller support, and having balanced stifiening members in the form of integers springing from the upper marginal wall, whereof one is fashioned to constitute a curtain or drapery supporting element and whereof the others are formed to overhang the window frame or cornice and which preferably slip between the wall and cornice, the body portion being afiorded a flush bearing against any style of window frame or cornice and having its marginal end walls and bottom wallfree from projections.
With such and other objects in view we will now describe the invention in its preferred embodiment, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, wherein,-
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a window fixture assembly containing our invention. I
Figs. 2 and 3 are perspective views of left and right or mated fixtures; and- Figs. 4: and 5 are, respectively, sectional and perspective views of a modification.
According to our invention we provide a main body portion 5, of sheet metal,of generally rectangular form, having a frontal projection 6 struck up from the face thereof and which constitutes a shade roller bracket which may have an eye 7 or an open slot 8, as is usual, in order to facilitate the mounting and retention of the shade roller. springing from the upper marginal wall of the fixtures are stiffening members or in tegers comprising end members, and an intermediate member. One of the end members is bent forwardly in the form of an ogee curve toconstitute a hanger 9 to accommodate the usual pole or support for a curtain or drapery. The other end member 10 and the intermediate member 11 may be counter-parts, and extend vertically in the plane of the main body portion and are then bent rearwardly and then downwardly to form retaining lugs 12, which, as indicated in Figure 1, overhang the cornice, and slip between the same and the wall. Fig. 2 illustrates a left hand fixture and Fig. 3 a right hand fixture. It will be noted that in each the hanger 9 overhangs the shade roller bracket, and that there are no end projections or other projections in line with said bracket.
In the modification, Fig. 5, a fixture of the same general type is indicated, which has the further merit that the structure is balanced by spacing the integral suspension elements so that both are substantially at the ends of the fixture. This is accomplished by splitting, as at 13, an upward extension of the main body and fashioning the extension to form the curtain or drapery hanger 14, and the suspension element 15 the complemental suspension element 16 being thesame as before. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the left hand mate of this structure. in the modification, as in the construction first referred to, the curtain hanging element 14: is above ,the shade roller bracket so that there are no unsightly projections in line with the latter and which would mitigate against the convenient assemblage of the parts orwhich would mar the appearance thereof.
Evidently, we have provided a simple and ornamental window fixture which can be produced at small cost, which may be readily applied and removed, and which is not a hazard to fine lace curtains, hangings, or draperies.
Having described our claim,
A unitary shade roller support and curtain hanger, embodying a main elongated plateinvention, we
like structure having its bottom and end Walls free from projections and which is otherwise free to take a flush bearing, said structure having a shade roller bracket struck up from its body and having integers springing flatwise from'its upper marginal wall comprising end members and an intermediate member, one of the end members and the intermediate member having ter minals Whieh are constructed and arranged 10 to overlie a WiDCiOW cornice and the other end member terminating in an arm or hanger and spaced to one side of and out of alignment With the bracket.
In testimony whereof, We 'afiix our signa- 15 tures. CHARLES P. KELLY.
THOMAS J. SHERIDAN.
