O. COURTOIS CURTAIN BRACKET Filed Sept. 26, 1921 i (jwvanfov @mi (l/fa@ attenta Patented Der. 3G, 1924i.
OMER COURTOIS, or MANCHESTER, NnWHAM'PsHInE. Y
CUR-Tarn BRACKET.
Application led September T0 all 't0/0m it may concern:
Be it known that I, OMER COURTOIS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Manchester, State of New Ha1npsire, U. S. A., have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain Brackets;
and I do hereby d-eclare that the following is' a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in curtain brackets.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a curtain bracket so arranged that it can be applied to a window, door, or the like, for the purpose of supporting a curtain adjacent the same.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a bracket such as above referred to which will hingedly support a pair of bars adapted to engage and retain the curtains hingedly in front of a window, door or the like.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a curtain including a U-shaped member having a flange formed upon one leg thereof for attaching said member to a window frame or the like, and supporting eyes upon the opposite leg thereof for swingingly mounting a curtain rod adjacent the window frame or the like.
A further object of the invention is the provision of means for reinforcing the said U-shaped member.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a curtain bracket such as above described which will be comparatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, reliable and efficient in use and readily operated.
With the above and other objects in view, the present invention resides in the novel features of construction, formations, combinations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of the present application, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective vlew of a portion of a window frame showing a curtain supported therefrom by one of my improved brackets;
as, 1921. serial No. 503,237.
Figure 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken through a window frame showing the invention in plan view; and,
F igure3 is la plan view of the blanks showing the mannerl in which a pair of brackets are cut from a single strip of material.
Referring-now to the accompanying drawing by corresponding characters of reference throughout the several views, the numeral 5 designates in general a window of ordinary construction mounted inthe usual frame 6, to which are secured my improved brackets 7. These brackets 7 `are of corresponding formation being reverse in their construction to engage opposite sides of ,the window frame, and each of the said brackets consists of a substantially U-shaped member 8, the upper portion of which is bent upon itself as at 9 for reinforcing purposes and provided with grooves 10 to receive a windo-w shade roller and to support the same in front of the window 5. l
One of the legs of the U-shaped member has a vertical flange 11 extending therefrom, which is provided with suitable apertures 12 for the reception of fastening elements 13 which support the said member in proper position upon the window frame. The opposite leg of this U-shaped member is provided with horizontally extending lateral ears 14 which are apertured as at 15 to receive the depending arm 16 of a supporting rod 17 which is thus hingedly mounted to support a curtain or one half of a pair of curtains shown at 18. It will be seen that the brackets 7 may be constructed from a single blank of material in a manner shown in Figure 3 to prevent any undesired waste, and the brackets shown in Figure 3 may be bent along the dotted lines to proclaim Without depart-ing from the spirit or saeriiioing any of the advantages of the in vention.
Having thus fullT described the invention, what I claim as new and `desire to protect by Letters `Patent isi:F
A curtain bracket comprising a lU-shaped piece of metal, one of thel legs thereof being bent longitudinally to' 'form a liange adapted for attachment to a Wall, the remaining leg bent at its ends to form a pair of parallel ears projecting outwardly troni 4he leg,said
support of a ,Window7 shed-e rol-ler,
In wiftn'ess `whereof I have hereunto Set my hand.
