BOTTLE-CAP.
Application filed October 2, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT STOCK, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the city of Sandusky, in the county of Erie and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bottle-Caps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in bottle caps and has for its object to provide a device which is simple and inexpensive in construction, which will eiiectually seal the neck of a bottle when applied thereto, and which may be applied to and removed from the bottle innumerably without destroying its usefulness.

The bottle to which my improved cap is applied is provided with an annular bead.
denoted by 1, formed at the mouth of the bottle and an exterior recess 2 on the neck 3 of the bottle immediately below the bead.
The cap 4 comprises a depending flange 5 which is developed into a series of fingers 6 arranged to be bent around an expansilole ring 7 to secure the ring in position on the cap. The ring 7 may be of closed structure and provided with one or more yielding open loops 8 which extend outwardly from the ring, as shown in Figs. 1 to 5 inclusive, to allow the ring to expand and the fingers to move outwardly with the ring.
In the form shown in Figs. 1 to 5 inclusive, the ring 7 is provided with four yielding open loops. and the ring 9 shown in Fig. 6 is provided with three loops and split Specification of Letters Patent.

as shown at 10, to compensate for an additional expansion of the ring or to give more resiliency to the ring.
The interior peripheral diameter of the ring and fingers is less than the exterior peripheral diameter of the bead l on the neck of the bottle, so that upon forcing the cap downwardly on the head, the fingers and ring will expand until they pass over the bead into the recess 2, whereupon they will contract to a position in intimate contact with the lower edge of the bead, thereby tending to draw the cap toward the mouth of the bottle. To efiect a tight closure with the mouth of the bottle, when the cap is in position on the neck, a disk shaped washer 11, of cork or other suitable material, is retained in the cap and held tightly against the mouth of the bottle by the engagement of the ring and fingers with the lower edge of the bead, as shown in Figs. 2, 3, and 4.
The cap may be removed from the bottle by pressing upwardly against the loops, which upward movement causes the head to force the fingers outwardly and expand the ring until they pass over the largest part of the bead, after which the ring and fingers will return to their normal position free of the bead.
It is obvious that while I have shown caps having three and four loops it may be advantageous to form a ring with more or less loops interposed between the fingers and the number of fingers between the loops may be increased or reduced.
It is evident that various changes may be made in the construction, form and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention; hence I do not wish to limit myself to the particular details herein shown and described, but
What I claim is:
1. A bottle cap having depending fingers and a ring secured to said cap by said fingers. said ring having a horizontally disposed yielding open loop interposed between two adjacent fingers to allow the ring and fingers to expand.
2. A bottle cap having depending fingers, and a ring secured to said cap by said fingers, said ring having a plurality of horizontally disposed yielding loops interposed between the fingers to allow the ring and fingers to expand. s
3. A bottle cap having depending fingers and a ring secured to said cap by said fingers, said ring having a plurality of horizontally disposed yielding open loops interposed between the fingers to allow the ring and fingers to expand. v
