Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 29, 1921.
Application filed August 13, 1920. Serial No. 403,342.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, BELLE CAMPBELL HAR- RISS, a citizen of the United States,.and a resident of New Rochelle, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented a'new and Improved Hose-Supporter, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved hose supporter more especially designed for holding upwomens hose without danger of tearing the hose, atthe same time insuring a proper fit of the hose particularly across the knee.
Another object is to hold the upper orwelt portion of the hose circumferentially to the wearers leg thus relieving the hose of strain on any particular point and thereby preventing injury to the hose.
Another object i to provide a hose sup porter capable of yielding relatively to the hose thus enabling the wearer to freely exercise the body and limbs without tearing the hose.
Another object is to hold the wearers corset down to produce the desired straight front efi'ect.
Another object is to permit the wearer to readily change the hose without requiring removal of the hose supporter from the wearers limb;
Another object is to provide a hose supporter free of metallic parts which are liable to rust and injure the hose.
With these and other objects in View, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding'parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved hose supporter as applied;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the improved hose supporter broken out; and
Fig. 3 is across section of the same on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
The ho e pporter in its general construction ihi n p rises a tubular body 10 provided. at its upper portion with a welt 11 and at its lower portion with a hem 12'containing an elastic band 13. The 'body 10 22 in the usualmanner.
with part with its welt 11 and hem 12 is made of a flexible material, preferably hose material and is kn1t the same as ordinary hose. The elastic band 13 is made of a piece of elastic webbing, and in practice the hem 12 is prov1ded with a vertical slit 14 through which the piece of webbing is inserted into the hem. The piece of webbing corresponds approximately in length tothat of the annular hem 12, and the abutting ends of the webbing are fastened together by stitches 15 Wll-lCll also close the slit 14 and also serve to fasten the piece of webbing in position in the hem 12.
In using the hose supporter, itis slipped- 1n place after the hose has been drawn in position on the wearers limb with the welt 11 uppermost and the hem 12 with the elastic band 13 lowermost, and the said hem and band are located immediately above the knee. It is understood that the hose supporter on account of being knitted and having the elastic band 13 can readily stretch circumferentially when drawing it in place over the upper portion of the hose and hence the hose supporter is under tension and securely holds the upper portion of the hose in position on the wearers limb above the knee. After the hofie supporter has been drawn into position on the hose the usual fastening members 20 of supporting straps 21 are connected with the welt 11, the said straps depending from the wearers corset It will be noticed that as the hose supporter is firmly held in place on the hose/at the wearers leg above the knee, the supporting strap 21 on account of being-attached to the welt 11 holds the corset 22 down thus providing the desired straight front effect. It will also be noticed that by the arrange-- ment described, thehose is supported with out danger of tearing it as the hose is not subjected at any particular and it will further be noticed that the hose supporter, on account of being under tension and encircling the upper portion of th hose, securely holds the upper portion of th hose in place, at the same time providingrelative sliding movement between-the upper portion' of thehose and the hose supporter in. case the wearer ekercises the body and limbs.
Thehose supporter body 10 with its welt iio 11 and hem 1'2mav be matched in color with that of the hose. Bythe use of the hose point to strain, 00
supporter the hose may be made less in length by several inches thus saving considerable material and expense especially in high-priced silk hosiery.
As the hose supporter is free of metallic parts, which are liable to rust, no possible injury can be done on account of this.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent y l. A hose supporter, comprising a tubular body of flexible material and adapted to encircle the upper portion of a, wearers hose above the wearers knee, the said body having a welt at its upper end and having a hem at its lower end and an elastic band held in the said hem. I
2. A hose supporter, comprising a tubular body of flexible material and adapted to encircle the upper portion of a wearers hose above the wearers knee, the said body having a welt at its upper end and having a hem at its lower end, an elastic band held in the said hem and having its ends abutting, and fastening means fastening the said elastic band ends together and to the hem.
3. A hose supporter, comprising a tubular body of flexible material .and adapted to encircle the upper portion of a wearers hose above the'wearers knee, the said body being under tension-when worn to hold the upper portion of the hose in place on the wearers limb, the lower end ofthe said body being provided with an annular hem and an elastic band held in the said hem.
4. A hose supporter, comprising a tubular body of flexible material and adapted to 'oncircle the upper portion of a wearers hose ab ve the wearers knee, the said body being smaller incircumference than the wearers limb above the knee and being adapted to stretch circumferentially to snugly hold the upper portion of .the hose in place on the wearers limb, the upper end of the said body having a welt adapted to be engaged by fastening devices of supporting straps depending from the wearers corset, the said body being provided at its lower end with an annular hem and an elastic band .held in the said hem.
5. A hose supporter, comprising a knit tubular body of hose material and adapted to encircle the upper portion of a hose above the wearers knee, the upper portion of the said tubular bodyhaving means adapted to be engaged by fastening devices of supporting straps depending from the wearers corset, and an elastic annular band held on the said body and under tension when in use to hold the upper portion of the hose firmly in position on the wearers leg.
6. A hose supporter, comprising a knit tubular body of hose material and adapted to encircle the upper portion of a hose above the wearers knee, the upper portion of the said body being reinforced,,and an annular elastic member on the lower portion of the said body and under tension when in use to hold the upper portion of the hose firmly in position on the wearers leg.
