' CURTAIN-HOLD R T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ANNIE M.-GRoss, a citizen of the United States, resident of Philadelphia,in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have made a cer tain new and useful Invention in Curtain- I-Iolders; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

Figure 1 is a perspective View of the invention, as applied.

Fig. 2 is a similar view, with the parts in position to receive the curtain, in placing the same in position.

Fig. 3 is a fragmentary perspective view showing a double device.

The invention has relation to curtain holders having for its object to provide an improved holder having means adapted to facilitate the placing thereon of the curtain and the removal of the same.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter set forth.

In the accompanying drawings illustrating the invention, the numeral 2 designates end bracket plates secured to the window casing 3, and each bearing a tubular carrier member or rod 4, pivoted to the bracket at 5, and extending outwardly and then laterally through a curved bend 6, the two rods projecting toward each other in alinement and being spaced apart. A rod 7 of suitable length slidably engages at both ends with the outer terminal portions of the bores of and connects the carrier rods. Preferably a second rod 8 of greater diameter than and surrounding the inner rod slidably engages at its ends over the outer terminal portions of and connects the carrier rods, bothrods 7 and 8 being of substantially the same length. When both connecting rods are used, the inner rod need be engaged with but one of the carrier rods.

but not sufficiently to clear the inner rod 7,

upon which one'end of the outer rodrests and is supported to form an extension rod made up of both rods 7 andS, and of the lateral extension of the carrier rod, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. The inner rod 7 may be regarded as an extension or part of the carrier rod at either side. In the operation stated and prior to the second or last named movement of the connecting rod, both " rods 7 and 8 and the carrier rod are swung in a vertical plane upon the carrier rod pivot as a center to bring the two carrier rods out of alinement and enable the extension to be made.

The curtain is now slipped over the connecting rod as shown, and curtain and rod together slid endwise until the rod is reengaged with the carrier rod and again entirely surrounds the inner rod 7. Both rods 7 and 8 and the carrier rod are then turned ing to the extension of the connecting rod upon the inner rod to an extent which may vary as desired, the curtain is enabled to be more conveniently placed in position, the inner rod from its support in the carrier rod bearing the weight of the outer rod and of the curtain. And owing to the outer or connecting rod upon which the curtain is placed beingof greater diameter than the carrier rods, the curtain may be spread laterally to its full width without obstruction.

This curtain holder is made in different sizes to accord with the size of the window I i to which it is to be fitted, and in placing the members also spaced apart and having pivotal connection with said bracket plates to swing in a vertical plane and extending toward each other, a straight inner rod of, a diameter to fit neatlywithin the bore of and bridging said members and slidably adjustable to escape from one of said members and engage the other member alone, and an outer straight;tubu1ar curtain-carrying rod of a diameter to fit neatly over and also bridging said members and slidably adjustable to escape from one of said members and engage the other member alone, both of said rods being slidable in one direction to escape from one of said carrier members and adjustable in a Vertical plane upon pivotal movement of the other carrier member, and said outer rod being slidable upon said inner rod as a guide in placing the curtain upon'the holde 1 In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
