REOEPTACLE.
Specification of Letters Patent. P- te nt ed hlay 11,1920.
Application filed June 29, 1918. Serial No. 242,551
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J QSEPH E. Ln CERF, a citizen of the United States, residing at Raymond, in the countyof Pacific and State of lVashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Receptacles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in receptacles and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in connection with tobacco and it is an object of the invention to provide a receptacle of this kind having'novel and improved means whereby compartments are provided for containing tobacco and other smokers accessories, such as matches and cigarette papers.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character including a body consisting of two hingedly connected sections, one of said sections being adapted to contain tobacco and the other of said sections serving as a closure member for the first section and wherein the second section is divided into two compartments to independently receive matches and cigarette papers.
Another object of the invention is to provide a receptacle of this general character including a compartment adapted to receive cigarette papers together with means whereby such papers may be effec tively retained within the compartment.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved receptacle whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure l is a view partly in side eleva tion and partly in section of a receptacle constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention;
Fig. 2 is a view in end elevation'of my improved receptacle as herein disclosed;
Fig. 8 is a longitudinal transverse sect'ionalf view' taken through my improved receptacle as herein embodied with the sections of the body portion in openposition and the cover of one of the sections also in open position; and w 1 V Fig. 4c is a fragmentary longitudinal view taken through my improved receptacle-and at right angles to the line of section of Fig. 3, said figure also illustrating a slightly modified construction.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings B denotes a body formed of suitable material and of a size and configuration to permit its ready insertion within a pocket. The body B comprises two sections 1 and 2 hingedly connected for relative movement. The section 1 is materially larger than the section 2 and has its outer end closed as. at 3 and said section 1 is adapted to contain tobacco. The section 2 is open at its opposite ends and is adapted to receive the open end portion of the section 1 and the overlying marginal portions or corresponding side faces of the sections 1 and 2 are provided with the intermeshing knuckles 4 through which passes a pintle 5 whereby said sections 1 and 2 are hingedly connected.
The section 2 is intersected by the partition 6 disposed transversely of the body B and which provides the compartments a and b. The outer compartment a is adapted to contain matches while the. inner compartment b is adapted to contain cigarette papers. The outer end ofthe section 2 or the to be closed by the hinged cover 7.
Intersecting the compartment Z) and exof the rod or wire 8 be free. a rod or wire 8" may be employed as illustrated in Fig. 4
wherein the opposite extremities of said rod or wire are anchored to the end walls of the compartment 6 of the section 2 7 From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a receptacle constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself section substantially at its center and afford ing an inner compartment and an outer com- 7 partment, a cover coacting with the open face of the outer compartment, and a rod intersecting the inner compartment, said rod extending longitudinally of the partition.
2. A receptacle of the class described comprising, in combination, a hollow body divided transversely into two sections, said sections being hingedly connected, the outer end of one of the sections being closed and the opposite ends of the second section being open, a partition intersecting the second section and affording an inner compartment and an outer compartment, a cover coacting with the open face of the outer compartment, and a flexible rod intersecting the inifiler compartment, one end of the rod being ree.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH E. LE CERF.
