JOHAN SKINDERVIKEN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, Assieivonor ONEH'ALFjTO oLAiisi 'Y EKLO,v or CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. l
OIGAR HOLDER Ann-sJAvIiiaz` ,Y A
ToaZZ whom it may concern v Be it known that I, JOHANl SiUNDERviKnN, a subject of the King of Norway, having declared my intentionto become al citizenof the United States, residing at Chicago, .in the county of Cook and tate of Illinois,
have invented certain' new Yand usefull 'Im-VV provements in Cigar Holders and Savers,
of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a container adapted to be carried in a pocket of the users rettes when conditions arise lwhich make 'it necessary, advisable l or desirable forthe smoker to temporarily discontinue its con'- sumption, to avoid premature discard. y I am aware that various types of holders for the purpose mentioned are known. ,Such
types however have a means into which the butt end of the cigar or cigarette is pushed, which feature renders the constructions impractical as the butt ends of lighted' cigarsand cigarettes are inoistened by the saliva of the mouth and if they contact with and 'are' ent invention is to overcome such an objection, and one definite servientobject is to provide a means to engage and hold a cigar or cigarette which is movable laterally into engagement with the cigar or cigarette so that sliding movement of the cigar or cigarette against the holding means is obviated.
With the above, and additional objects, which will appear hereinafter, the invention has been embodied in one preferred form as illustrated in accompanying drawings.
ln the views of said drawings, illustrating the improved cigar or cigarette holder,
Figure 1 is a front elevation;
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view with the sections of the casing or holder detached;
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view, taken at right angles to Fig. 2, and showing a ciga carried thereby; v
Fig. 4 is a bottom view of the closure sec-.

Arm 11 is provided with an eyelet or journal at 16 while the arm 12 is provided with an eyelet or journal 17. Each Varml 11 and 12 ispreferably metallic. A pivot 18 passes through Y the journals 16 and 17 to mount-the arms 11 and 12 for swingingmovement, andthe terminals of the pivot 18 are preferably turned up and soldered or otherwise secured to theV closure 7. Above the pivot 18, an enlarged slot 19 is preferably provided through the section Y7 and eXtendinO through andbeyond said slot, are fingers t20, integral with the arms 11 and 12 and their journals; These ingers 2O are normally Vurged.` apart by means of a coil spring 21 surrounding'an arcuate rod 22 fastened rigidly at one end as V at 23, to one of the fingers, and 4projecting Y loosely'at its other end through an opening in the otherfinger, as at24. It will be seen 1,
that by the operators `fingers pressing the fingers 2O together, the jaws 13 will be spread apart so as to release or' be ready to receive a cigar.
