Patented Feb, 233, i926.
WALTER W. BRISGO E, OF STA'UNTON, VIRGINIA.
GIGAR AND CIGARETTE LIGHT EXTINGUISHER.
Application filed 0ct0ber 26, 1923: Serial No. 671,007.
T 0 all era/10m it 'ni ay concern:
Be it known that l, MI/run \V. Binsoon,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Staunton, in the county of Augusta and State of Virginia, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Cigar and Cigarette Light Extinguishers; and I do hereby declare the following to bee. full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art towhich it appertains to make and use the same. i
My invention relates to smokers appliances, and has for its primary object the production of convenient and efiicient means for instantly extinguishing or smothering fire from the end of a lighted cigar or cigarette when occasion requires;
It has for a further object the production of appliances of the character indicated having the combined qualities of simplicity, compactness, lightness, economy of manufacture, and adaptability to varying conditions and means of support,
It is a well known fact that unfinished smokers in the exercise of reasonable precautions in this respect.
With the foregoing and other objects in,
view the invention will now be particularly described, and then pointed out in the ap- In the accompanying drawings which form part of this application for Letters Patent, and whereon corresponding reference characters indicate like parts in the several views:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention in this instance conveniently mounted upon, and associated with, an ash rc ceiver;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of an individual detached extinguisher having a ring support;
Figure 3 is a longitudinal central sectional vlew of the 1nvent10n;.and
Figure 4 is an end view looking directly into the open end of extinguisher.
Reference being had to the drawings and numerals thereon, 5 indicates the conical body portion of my invention, preferably made of relatively light metal, spun, drawn, cast or otherwise formed with a flaring wide' open mouth or outer end 6, and converging toward its closed end 7 as best shown by Figure 3.
Projecting centrally into the interior of the body 5, from its apex or closed end 7., is rigidly secured a fire-spreader 8 pointed at its extremity as at 9, and the structure thus described may be finished at its closed end 7 by means of a ring 10, for pocket or watch-fob uses, may be conveniently mounted as shown by Figure 1 upon any approved ash receiver such as 1.1, for library, smoking room or desk use, or may be variously mounted upon the instrument board of automobiles, upon pipe racks or in other convenient places all within the spirit and/intent of my improvements.
Having thus described my invention what I now claim and desire to secure by Letteis- Patent is:
1. In a cigar ,and cigarette light-extinguisher the combination with a substantially conical body portionprimarily open at both ends, of a pointed fire-spreader projecting through the opening at the smaller end of the structure in frictional contact with the inner walls thereof.
2. In a cigar and cigarette light-extinguisher the combination with a substantially conical body portion primarily open at both ends, of a wire nail projecting through the opening at the smaller end of the structure in frictional and rigid contact with the inner walls thereof. 4
3. In a cigar and cigarette light-extinguisher the combination with a substantially conical body portion, of a pointed firespreader projecting through and forming an air-tight closure for the smaller end of said body portion.
in testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
WALTER W. BRISCOE.
