1 Claim. 1

This invention relates to a pocket cigarette ash receiver and snuffer designed for pocket and personal use, the primary object of the invention being to provide a pocket or envelope constructed of flexible material and provided with a fire-proof lining to permit ashes from cigarettes to be deposited therein or to permit the fire of a cigarette to be snuffed out by placing the cigarette within the pocket or envelope without danger of burn ing the pocket or envelope.

Another important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which when held in the hand with the thumb and fingers pressing against opposite sides of the pocket or envelope, the closure or flap will swing open to permit ashes from a cigarette or a lit cigarette to be deposited therein.

Still another object of the invention is to so construct the pocket or envelope that the lining will be held in position by the folds of the material of which the pocket or envelop is formed.

With the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts, hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.

Referring to the drawing:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cigarette ash receiver and snuifer, constructed in accordance with the invention.

Fig. 2 is a View of the pocket or envelope forming the ash receiver, in its open position for the reception of ashes or a cigarette.

Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on line l l of Fig. 1.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the ash receiver and snuffer is in the form of a pocket or envelope indicated by the reference character 5, and comprises a length of flexible material 6, which may be leather or other suitable material, the length of flexible material having one end thereof folded inwardly at '1 providing a space for the reception of the end 3 of the asbestos lining 9, which is also in the form of a strip of flexible material.

The opposite end of the strip of flexible material 5 is bent upon itself for a substantial length of the material, providing a flap or closure Ill, a portion of which overlies the end H of the lining 9, securing the lining within the pocket or envelope 5.

The side edges of the pocket or envelope are closed by the strips I2 which are constructed of fireproof material, such as asbestos, the ends it thereof being held between the length of material 6 and lining 9, as clearly shown by Fig. 4 of the drawing. It will, of course, be seen that suitable adhesive material may be provided to coat the surfaces of the strips 12! so that the strips l2 will be held in place.

It might be further stated that the material of which the pocket or envelope is formed, is such that when the side edges of the pocket or envelope are pressed towards each other, the pocket or envelope will open, and the flap or closure H) will swing upwardly to a position as shown by Fig. 2, of the drawing. This movement can be accomplished by the thumb and fingers of one hand, while the other hand may be used to manipulate the cigarette to either remove the ashes therefrom and deposit them in the pocket or envelope, or position the lit cigarette therein. When positioning a lit cigarette in the pocket or envelope 5, the sides of the pocket or envelope are pressed against the burning end of the cigarette to extinguish the fire.

From the foregoing it will be seen that due to the construction shown and described, I have provided a pocket or envelope which may be carried in the pocket for personal use in providing a receiver for ashes or a cigarette.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:

In a pocket ash receiver, a body formed of a length of flexible material folded intermediate its ends providing front and rear sections, the rear section being substantially longer than the front section and folded upon itself with its eX- tremity extended into the space between the front and rear sections, providing a closure for the body, a lining comprising a length of asbestos material folded upon itself and disposed within the body in contact with the front and rear sections of said body, one of the ends of said lining being held between the extremity of said cover and rear section of the body, the opposite upper edge of said front section being folded downwardly over the upper edge of the lining securing the lining in position, and fireproof strips closing the side edges of the body, the ends of said strips being held between the lining and front and. rear sections of the body.
