V'1"his invention relates to combination vanity cases and the main object is to provide a small and neat case which may be used as the usual vanity case or compact and which 5 may also serve as a cigarette case and a receptacle or carrier for a cigarette holder or lighter or both.
Another object is to provide a novel and eiicient means whereby the cigarette holder I may be positively held inl its place in the case when not in use or'readily and convenently removed from the case when it is used. c i- A further object' is to provide a caseA of 13 this kind in a simple, eicientand durable form. l
The foregoing and other objects together with means whereby the same may be car.- ried into effect will best be understood from 20 the following description of the invention taken in connection lwith the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure 1 is 'a side view of a case constructed in accordance with my invention. 25 Figure 2 is a view `from the opposite side showing the case open.
Figure 3fis a front edgeview of the case close Figure 4 is an end view of the cas opened. Figure 5 is an enlarged ldetail of the cigarette holder catch. l Figure 6 is a sideview of a 'modification of the case adapted for carrying both a `ci arette holder and lighter.
igure 7 is an enlarged detaill of the cigarette holder retaining catch used in this modied form. f'
Fi rette ighter alone.
In the embodiment shown in Figures 1 to inclusive the invention comprises a case 1 which includes the two sections 2 and 3 hereinafter referred toA as the receptacle and closure sections respectively. These receptacle and=closure sections 2 and 3' are hingedtogether'fby hinges 4 at one margin and aregprovidedwith complementary clasp buttons5 at their o posite margins to serve asa means for hol the case closed. 6 is a flexible handle for carrying the case `1 that the case as a whole will be of a relativeoutward from the-bore 17. VAn aperture re 8 is a detail side view ofthe ciga' and 7 is a ribbon to limit the opening `of the two sections 2 and 3 to such point that they are substantially at right angles to each other.,
The closure section 3 is in the form of a shallow container as shown at 8. and is provided with theconventional spring set and hinged retaining bar 9 by means of which cigarettes 10 when placed Iin the closure section may beheld in place. The recep-'o tacle section 2 is also in the form ofa shallow container and a mirror 11 is provided in this section near its top. Below the mirrorare the conventional pockets 12 and 13 for face powder 'and rouge or other cosmetics and to one side of these Ipockets is provided a recess 14` over which `a pivoted lever 15 may be extended to hold a tube of lipstick 16 in 4place as shown.
One side of the rece tacle 2 is extended to form a cigarette hol er receptacle."16, the closure section 3 when closed against the said receptacle section being adapted to lie flush with the side of this section 16 so shallow rectangular form as shown. In
l lthis cigarette holder receptacle 16 a bore or recess 17 is provided into which the cigarette holder as 18 maybe inserted. In the lower end of the bore 17 an. ex ansion coil 80 lspring. 19 is seated and rovide `with a cap plate 20 against `which t e mouth end of the 19serving to norma ly urge the said holder 30 is provided through the side 21 of the .cigarette holder receptacley 16 extending into communication with the bore 17, the inner portion of this aperture bein enlarged to form a s ing chamber 22 asiown in Figure 5. cigarette holder retaining -catch l23 is provided; the same comprising a stem 24 slidably mounted'through the aperture 20 and having a knob 25 at its outer extremity.
The innerend 26 of the stem 24 is adapt- 95 ed to be retractably extended into the bore 17 and a fixed collar 27 is provided adjacent this inner end,` the said collar 27 being adapted to play in the spring chambers 22. An expansion coil spring 28 is braced be- 100 tween this collar 27 and the outer end of thel chamber 22 and serves to normally urge the catch 23 inward so that the inner end 26 of its stem 24 will engage .the upper end of the cigarette holder 18 and so hold it 'in place against the outward pressure of the spring 19.
The advantages and utility offthis device will be evident. It provides a convenient and neat receptacle for face powder and other cosmetics as well as cigarettes and a cigarette holder. The cigarette holder may easily be removed from the case b simply pulling outward on the knob 25 w ereupon i the spring 19 will eject the holder into the hand. To add to the attractiveness of the case it may be provided with panels 29 of any suitable material such as celluloid or bone lixed to its sides.
The embodiment shown in Fi ures 6, 7 and 8 comprises a case 31 whic includes receptacle and closure sections 32 and 33 similar toand arranged in the same manner as the hereinbefore described sections 2 and 3 and is also adapted in the same manner for carrying face powder, rouge li stick and cigarettes in the same manner. o one side of the case 31 is provided the cigarette holder receptacle 34 similar to the aforesaid receptacle having the bore 35 into which the cigarette holder 36 may be inserted as set forth in the description of the first embodiment. A recess 37 is provided in the wall 3'8 of the receptacle 34 at the top of the case, a partition 39 intervening between this recess 37 and the bore 35. A plunger 40 is slidably' passed through this partition and enters a socket 41 in the wall of the recess 37, the said plunger 40 being normally urged inward into the -bore 35 b a coil spring 42 braced between the wal of the recess 37 and the fixed collar 43 so that it will engage the upper end of the cigarette holder 36 and hold itin place. .A bell crank 44 is journaled on a shaft 45 extended' across the recess 37 at right angles to and below the plunger 40 and the upper endA of this crank 44 engages a dependedlug 46 upon the collar 43. An operating rod 47 is slidably passed through an aperture 48 in the receptacle 34 and is provided with a knob 49 at its outer end, the inner end engaging the` lower arm of the bell crank 44. A stop collar 50 adjacent the inner end of the ro 47 is adapted to engage the -wall of the recess `37 limiting the inward movement of the plunger 40 and the Swingin of the bell crank 44 under the influence o the spring 42 as will be understood. It is obvious )that by pressing inward upon the knob 49 the p unger 40 will be withdrawn somewhat from the bore 35 releasing the cigarette holder 36. At the other side of the case 31 iny this embodiment of the invention a 05 cigarette lighter receptacle 51 is provided,
.struck and the case 31 is also the same being similar in form to the aforesaid receptacle 34 and being provided with a tapering socket 52 provided with a spiral female thread 53. A cigarette lighter 54 of the conventional striker type is provided, the same having a s iral male thread 55 ada ted to engage said emale thread 53 to hol the lighter 1n the socket 52. A small iece of steel 56 .is provided upon the side oi) thereceptacle 51 upon which the lighter may be rovided -with the ornamental panels 57 simi ar to the panels 29 of the rst construction.
understood that. I may vary from the same in minor structural details not departing i from the spirit of the invention and within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
In a cigarette holder for a cosmetic case, the said case having an elongated holder receiving bore and having also a recess spaced from and extended in axial alignment with the holder receiving bore, a plunger slidably mounted diametricall through the recess and throu h the wa ll between the recess and bore, t e said plunger being sprin -set to normally extend at one end into the ore, a collar fixed on the plunger in the recess, a bell crank fulcrumed in the'recess, and engaging the collar on the plunger at `one end, an operating rod slidably extended into the recess and engaging the other end of the bell crank, and a sto collar secured on the inner end portion o the operating rod v ture.
