Application June 22, 1953, Serial No. 363,047
2 Claims. (Cl. 132-79) The present invention relates to improvements in expellant holders for sticks such as lipsticks and other applicative cosmetics and, more specifically, to a new and improved combination of such a holder with a roll of tissue paper or the like.
One other object of the present invention is the provision of a device of the character described which holds not only a lipstick or the like but also a roll of tissue paper or of any other material suitable for wiping any excess of a cosmetic off a persons face, hands, or the like, so that it no longer will be necessary to use a handkerchief or a sheet of tissue paper separately carried in a bag or pocket for thus wiping off unwanted cosmetics.
Another object of the present invention is the provision of a device of the character described which is so constructed and arranged as to greatly facilitate the inserting of a roll of tissue paper into the holder and to simplify the use of the tissue paper, portions of which can easily be torn oif the roll of tissue paper irrespective of whether the device is open or closed by a cap member.
A further object of the present invention is the provision of a device of the character described which is of substantially the same dimensions and weight as ordinary holders for lipsticks and the like, and which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, sturdy, durable, of a pleasing outer appearance, and well adapted for the purpose for which it is intended.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangements of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
ln the accompanying drawing a preferred form of the invention has been shown.
in said drawing:
Figure l is a longitudinal sectional view on the line 1 1 of Fig. 3 of a preferred embodiment of my invention;
Fig. 2 is a side View; and,
Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view on the line 1-1 of Fig. 1.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
In the drawing the numeral 1 denotes the cylindrical main portion of an actuator barrel, which has a longitudinal slot 2 and preferably is made as a unit with an enlarged end portion 3, that is formed as a thrust surface. A carrier 4 for a stick 5 is slidable in the main portion 1, which is rotatable in an outer tubular case 7, that is provided with a helical slot 10.
A cylindrical housing 11, which has an inner wall portion l2 and an outer wall portion 14 as well as an annular bottom portion 15, encompasses with its inner wall portion. 12 the outer tubular case 7, which is connected to the inner wall portion 12 at 17 (Fig. 1) by any suitable, well-known connecting means. A pin 20 secured to the carrier 4 extends therefrom radially through the slot 2 nited States Patent O into the slot 10, so that the parts 4 and 5 will be moved up or down by turning the housing 11 relative to the end portion 3 of the actuator barrel, for expelling the stick 5 partially from the holder formed by the parts 1, 3, 7 and 11, or for withdrawing the same thereinto.
A rolled sheet of tissue paper or the like is inserted between the wall portion 12 and 14 of the housing 11, and the outer wall portion 14 is provided with a longitudinal slot 22'through which an end portion of the sheet 21 is extended. I prefer to make the wall portion 14 shorter than the wall portion 12, and to make the sheet 21 wider than the wall portion 14 is long for facilitating the inserting and turning of the rolled sheet 21, so that it easily can be moved intol a position in which an end thereof extends through the slot 22.
A removable cap member 23, which preferably has a cylindrical main portion and a semi-spherical top portion, is adapted for encompassing the housing 11 and has in its main portion a longitudinal slot 24 for extending therethrough the aforementioned end of the sheet 21. An edge section 2S of the cylindrical portion of the main portion of the cap member 23 adjacent the slot 24 preferably is formed as a cutting edge for facilitating the separating of a portion of the sheet 21 from the rest thereof. At least one of the edge sections of the outer wall portion 14 of the housing 11 adjacent the slot 22 also may be formed as a cutting edge, so that a piece can be separated easily from the sheet 21 irrespective of whether the cap member 23 is one the device or is removed therefrom.
Thus the stick 5 can be operated in the customary manner by turning the housing 11 relative to the lower portion 3, and a piece of the sheet 21 always is readily available for wiping olf any excess of cosmetics, irrespective of whether the device is open or closed and irrespective of the position of the stick 5.
Since certain changes may be made in the above article and different embodiments of the invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
It is also to be understood that the following claims are intended to cover all of the generic and specific features of the invention herein described, and all statements of the scope of the invention which as a matter of language might be said to fall therebetween.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A lipstick and tissue holder comprising an actuator barrel provided with an annular thrust surface, a stick carrier slidable within said actuator barrel, an outer tubular case in which said actuator barrel is rotatable, a housing having an inner tubular wall portion connected to and encompassing said outer tubular case and an outer tubular wall portion provided with a longitudinal slot as well as a bottom portion connecting the inner wall portion to said outer wall portion and being adjacent the annular thrust surface of said actuator barrel and being rotatable thereon, a longitudinal tissue sheet intermediate the outer and inner wall portions of said housing extending through the slot in said outer wall portion, and a removable cap member constructed and arranged for encompassing said housing itting over the outer wall portion thereof and having a longitudinal slot in registering alignment with the slot in the outer wall portion of said housing.
2. A lipstick and tissue holder comprising an actuator barrel having a cylindrical main portion provided with a longitudinal slot and having an increased end portion formed as an annular thrust surface, a stick carried slidable within said actuator barrel, an outer tubular case in which said actuator barrel is rotatable having a helical slot, a pin secured to said stick carrier extending through the slot vtubular case and an outer tubular wall portion provided with a longitudinal slot as well as a bottom portion connecting the inner wall portion to said outer wall portion and being adjacent the increased end portion of said actuator barrel and being rotatable thereon, a longitudinal tissue sheet intermediate the outer and inner Wall portions of said housing extending through the slot in said outer wall portion, and a removable cap member constructed and arranged for encompassing said housing tting over the outer wall portion thereof and having a longitudinal slot in registering alignment with the slot in the outer wall portion of said housing, the outer wall of said housing being shorter than said inner wall, and a longitudinal edge portion of said cap member adjacent the slot thereof being formed as a cutting edge.
