Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,183, dated November 19, 1S72.
To all lwhom 'it may concern:
Beit known that I, J oHN L. WRITTEN, of Essex Junction, in the county of Chittenden and State of Vermont, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Patterns for Mittens, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to the construction of mittens made, either in Whole or in part, ot' leather; and consists in theimode of cutting the leather, and in the patterns for the parts of the said mittens, the same being hereinafter described.
Figure l represents the mode of cutting the backs of the mittens or the pattern therefor. Fig. 2 represents the patterns for cutting the palm and other parts of the mitten. Fig. 3 represents the palm and Wrist connected with the back. Fig. 4 is a view of the back of the complete mitten.

A represents the back and wrist, which may be of either soft leather oratextile fabric. B is the pattern for the palm or leather front, with the side stop O attached. D is the pattern for the upper half of the mitten-thumb. Eis the inside half or ball of the thumb. By usingthese patterns the leather and cloth, or either, is cnt to the best advantage and greatly economized.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters .Patent- 1. The patterns, marked A, B, O, D, E, F, and G, when used in the manufacture ot' mittens, substantially as described.
2. A mitten, constructed from the abovedescribed pattern, substantially as shown and described.
