`-AAHNAZITHIFJYZQKASSON 8L ALEXANDER i. KASSON.
b :Improvement in Gloves. N0. 1211-530. y Paented Deo.5,1871.
UNITED STATES PATENT QEEIOE.
HARVEY Z. KASSN AND ALEXANDER J. KASSON, OF GLOYERSVILLE, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN GLOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,630, dated December 5, 1871.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that we, HARVEY Z. KASSON and ALEXANDER J. KAssoN, of Gloversville, in the county of Fulton and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Manufacture of Gloves and Mittens 5 and we do hereby declare the following tbe a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification.
Our invention relates to the construction of thumbs for gloves and mittens, said thumb being composed of two pieces, so cut as to be applied either to a round or oblonghole otl a glove or mitten the object being to give more strength and durability to the thumb, and to economize in cutting the leather and cloth.
Figures 1 and 2 are views ot' the two pieces composing the thumb ot' the glove or mitten, and Fig. 3, a front View of the glove, showing our improved thumb.
A and B are the two pieces composing the thumb of a glove or mitten. They are cut out by suitable dies in the forms shown in Figs. 2
and 3 of the drawing. They are then sewed together, the piece A forming the outside or top of the thumb and the piece B the'tront or inside of the thumb. When cut in the manner herein shown and described they can be applied either to a round or oblong hole of a glove or mitten; also there is quite a saving in the cutting ofthe leather and cloth used for the thumb, and the glove is found to be more durable. The thumb-pieces A and B, when cut as shown, give a graceful and easy-fitting shape to the thumb; and, moreover, throw the top or inside seam ofthe thumb, which is generallv most exposed, to the' outside, which is desirable. This seam is marked c.
The thumb of a glove or lnitten, composed ot' two pieces, cut, as herein shown and described, so as to be applied' either to a round or oblong hole ot' a glove or mitten.
