IMPROVEMENT IN GLOVES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 136,115, dated February 1S, 1873.

To all lwhom 'it may concern: g

Be it known that I, EDWIN V. WHITAKER, of Gloversville, inthe county of Fulton and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Gloves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the acconipanyin g drawing forming a part of this specification.

The invention relates to gloves made with leather palms and cloth backs; and consists in cutting a glove with the thumb and all the forgets (except for middle n ger) in the same piece with the palm. The purpose is to economize the material, give the exact relative quantity of leather to each, and make the for- Y gets seamless at the points between the iingers. A much smoother and more accurate nt may thus be given to gloves, while their durability is also greatly increased.

In the' drawing, A represents the palm-piece of glove, having the curved projection a2, together with the thumb-body a and thumb cap or extension al, which are subsequently connected by the cloth or fabric. b is the front iinger, to which is attached its forget b1, having the projection b2, that takes the seam out ofthe intersection of the rst and second ngers. C is the second or middle linger, whose separate forgets c c are illustrated in Fig. 3 of drawing. d e are the third and fourth ngers,

whose forgets d d and el el are connected on the short line f, so that the edges f f will come together for seaming between said iingers. One of the forgets el has a projection, e2, which takes the seam out ofthe junction between the second and third ingers. The extension-strip E may form part of palm, or be separately attached. B is the cloth back of the glove.

By this construction it will be observed that there is ,no seam between any of the lingers, except between the third and fourth. This eft'ectually prevents the fracture which so commonly occurs at these points, and brings-the strain upon the material itself, thus not opening the seam, but allowing the leather to stretch and conform to the slight variations inthe hands of different persons.
