UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ISRAEL F. BROWN, OF NEW LONDON, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT lN FLAT-IRON HOLDERS AND POLIS'HERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,137, dated October 15, 1872.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I,5 IsRAEL F. BROWN, of New London, New London county, Connecticut, have invented an Improvement in a Flat- Iron Holder and Polisher, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists in the construction and combining of certain parts to form or produce a convenient article for holding flat-irons, to be used upon an ordinary or ironing table, which will protect the table from injury from overheating, and at the same time serve as a convenient method of holding the Hat-iron, with its polisher and wiper, upon the same foundation, a description of which will be found in the annexed specification and the accompanying drawing, which is a part of the specification.
In the drawing, Figure lis a side elevation Y, of my improved iiat-iron holder and polisher;
and Fig. 2, a plan view of the same.
In the construction of my improvement as heretofore described I obtain a piece of Wood of convenient length, Width, and thickness, to serve as a platform, A, for the flat-iron rest, emery surface, and cloth for cleaning the Hatiron, and also as a non-conductor of heat to protect the table. Upon it I attach a metallic flange or 'flat-iron rest, B, by means of screws or nails passing through holes in projections formed for the purpose at the base ofthe rest. The rest mayT be constructed in circular form with openings for the circulation of air, as shown in the drawing, or of any other form desired, with or Without openings. On one side ofthe rest I cover the surface ofthe platform or base with emery, C, so prepared as to adhere to it. On the other side of the rest may be attached or laid a cloth, D, to be used for the purpose of cleaning` the fiat-iron from smoke and lth, or it may be dispensed With entirely. As it will be seen, I form a very convenient implement with very-little cost, and with proper treatment always ready for use.
Having thus described my improvement, what l claim as my invention is- The platform or base of Wood With the surface of one end prepared with emery, and the other end with or Without a covering of cloth, in combination with the flat-iron rest attached thereto, all in manner as shown and described.
ISRAEL F. BROWN.
