IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINES FOR P RESS ING PANTALOONSQ Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 148,897, dated March 24, 1874; application filed October 25, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE F. POND, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pressing-Machines, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a top view of my improved pressin g-machine. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. My invention has for its object to furnish an improved machinefor use in forming and pressing the bottoms of the legs of pantaloons, and which shall be simple in construction and convenient in use, being easily and quickly manipulated. The invention consists in the adjustable finger, the adjusting-lever, and the locking-screw, in combination with the formin g-plate and the shaft in the swinging stand and pivoted arm, in combination with the f orming-plate and the shaft, and in the combination of the spring friction-brake with the shaft and the forming-plate, as hereinafter fully described. e A represents the base-board of the machine, which is designed to be secured to a bench, table, counter, or other support, and to the ends of which are securely attached two standards, B. In bearings on the upper ends of the standards B works the shaft or spindle O, to the forward ends of which is attached a plate, D. The forward edge of the plate D is so shaped as to give the proper form to the front of the pantaloon -bottoms. Along the plate D, and parallel therewith, extends a finger, E, the rear end of which is bent inward and eX- tends along the inner end of the plate D through a slot in the end or head of the shaft 0, and its end is pivoted to a lever, F. The forward end of the lever E is notched or slotted to receive a pin attached to the forming-plate D, and which serves as a fulcrum to said lever. By this arrangement the pantaloon-bottoms are stretched while being formed and pressed. The finger E is held in place, when adjusted, by a setscrew, G, passing in through the end or head of the shaft O, and pressing against the said finger E. The plate D is supported, while the bottoms are being pressed, by a stand or table, H, attached to the end of an arm or bar, I, the other end of which is pivoted to the base A, or to the bench, table, or counter to which the machine is secured, so that the said stand H can be readily swung back when and justing or forming the bottoms. J is a spring, one end of which is secured to the base A or standard B, and its other end presses against the shaft O, to hold said shaft and the plate D in any position into which it may be adjusted.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The adjustable finger E, the adjustinglever F, and the locking-screw G, in combina tion with the forming-plate D and shaft 0, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The swinging stand H and pivoted arm I, in combination with the plate D and shaft G, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. The combination of the spring frictionbrake J with. the shaft O and plate D, substantially as herein shown and described.
