Description

B. F. NUTTlNG.
Copy-Holders.
Patented Sept. 22,1874.
IN VENTOL.
Attbrneya UNITED STATES PATENT Orrron BENJAMIN I. NUTTING, OF WATERTOWN, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN COPY-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,202, dated September 22, 1374 application filed July 23, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. N UTTING, of the city of Watertown and State of Massach usetts, have invented certain Improvements in Adjustable and Portable Copy-Holders, of which the following is a specification:
The nature and objects of the invention relate to a portable and adjustable copy-holder; and it consists in the construction, arrangement, and susceptibility of adaptation, which will be hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure l is a longitudinal sectional view illustrating my invention, and Fig. 2 a plan view of the same.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the clamprplate, which is adapted to be attached to a table or other article of furniture, let the position of the same be vertical, horizontal, or otherwise. It is made fast and secured by means of set-screw a, which carries on its inner end a bearing-plate, a. The body of this plate is made and formed so as to correspond with a disk, B, on the standard B, and it acts in connection therewith, being susceptible of being turned to any angle desired, and secured there by means of set-screw b. On the opposite end of this standard B is another disk, O, arranged at right angles with the body of the clamp-plate A, and operating against this disk is another, 0, which is attached to the standard D. D is a standard,
being provided at one end with the disk 0,
rigidly attached thereto, and at the other with the paper-clip E. This clip is of the ordinary form and construction, except as to the means, 0, for clamping the same to the standard D, which, being capable of being turned on the standard as desired, is considered novel.
These clamping-arms e are constructed and adapted to clasp the standard D, and allow the clip E to be revolved around the same at will, and also to be adjusted vertically, as is obviousa The disks G and B O and body of clampplate A, being'arranged at right angles to each other, allow of a multitudinous variety of directions in which the copy or paper may be held, and the spring paperclip, being susceptible of being turned as desired on the standard D, multiplies the same still further. The operator, by this arrangement, may readily adjust his manuscript or paper, with reference to light, 850., to suit himself.
I claim- 1. The spring-clip E, provided with clamping-arms e, in combination with the standard D, as shown and specified.
2. The clamp-plate A, adjustable disk B, and standard B, in combination with the disks 0 C, and set-screw and standard D, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
