ALEXANDER N URICK, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 8, 1905.
Application filed April 12, 1905- Serial No. 255,167.
To all whom it may concern/.-
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER NURIoK, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tables, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in tables; and the ob ject of this invention is to provide a novel form of table-top which can be secured to difierent sizes of tables.
Another object of this invention is to pro vide a table-top having novel means whereby it can be easily and quickly clamped to the top of a table or stand, providing a table of larger dimensions which can be readily used for various purposes.
A further object of this invention is to provide an attachment for tables that will increase the usefulness of the table or stand. The table-top is constructed whereby it can be easily and quickly clamped upon the top of a table or stand. and the construction of the attachment or table-top permits of the same being manufactured at comparatively small cost, at the same time maintaining a strong and durable construction.
With the above and other objects in view the invention finally consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts'which will be hereinafter more fully described, and, referring to the drawings accompanying this application, like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a table or stand equipped with my improved table-top or attachment. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 00 /0 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the bottom of the table. Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view of a portion of a table-top equipped with my improved attachment; and Fig. 4 is an enlarged plan view. The bottom surface 2 of the table-' top 1 is provided with a plurality of cleats or clamps 3, these clamps beingarranged in substantially rectangular form, and the ends of the clamps are beveled, as indicated at 4:, whereby the clamps will snugly fit together and form a substantially rectangular frame, as illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
' To adjustably secure the clamps3 upon the bottom of the table-top, I provide the bottom of the table with a plurality of screwbolts 5, each one carrying a slotted head 6. Each clamp is provided with transverselydisposed slots 7 7, in which the screw-bolts 5 5 are adapted to engage. Upon each screwbolt I mount a washer 7, adapted to rest upon the edges of the slots 7, whereby when the screw-bolts 5 are adjusted the clamps can be loosened or secured in engagement with the table-top 2 in any position permissible by the length of the slots 7.
Upon the bottom surface of each clamp and centrally thereof I provide oblong members 8, each one being slotted, as indicated at 9. These members are held in engagement with the clamps 3 by screw-bolts 10, carried by the clamps, said screw-bolts projecting upwardly through the slot 9 on each of the members 8. Winged thumb-nuts 11 are mounted upon the screw-bolts 10 to retain the members 8 in engagement with the clamps 3.
The reference-numeral 12 designates a table or stand having a top 14 and depending legs 15 15, which support the top 14: of the table or stand. I have illustrated this form of table or stand to demonstrate the manner in which my improved table-top is clamped to the top 14:. By referring to Fig. 2 of the drawings it will be observed that each one of the clamps 3 has been moved into engagement with the edges of the top 14 and secured in this position by the winged thumb-nut 6. In order that the table or stand 12 may be lifted or moved without disengaging the top 1 from the table or stand, I have provided the members 8, which are adapted to engage the lower or bottom side of the top 14 and retain said top in engagement with the top 1 and the clamps 3.
The adjustable features of the clamps permit of the table-top being removed from the stand or table 12 at any time it may be desired, and it will be readily seen that my improved table-top can be clamped and secured to tables of various sizes.
I do not care to confine myself to the contour of the table-top nor to the shape of the clamps, as these clamps may be made to suit tables having round topsor tops of other 2. In an attachment for tables, the combination with a table-top, of a top of larger dimensions than said table-top,adjustable clamps carried by the bottom of said top and adapted to engage the edges of said table-top, an adjustable member carried by each of said clamps and adapted to engage the bottom edge of said table-top, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
