SAD-IRDN HOLDEN..
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 777,570, dated December 13, 1904. Application filed January 7, 19011. Serial No. 188,142. (No model.)
To all 107mm it may emv/cern.-
Be it known that I, MARTIN A. ToLIN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Poplar-grove, in the county of Boone and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sad-Iron Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a holder for sad-irons of light and simple con struction that is adapted to be connected therewith both when such irons are in and out of use. r
My invention consists, essentially, of a sadiron holder comprising a supporting-mat normally suspended by means of a member extending' upwardly therefrom and pivoted to a bearing on a sad-iron below such sad-iron and adapted to be swung upward and held out of engagement with the face thereof while in use.
The invention is applicable to sad-irons having permanent handles and also to those having detachable handles.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure l is an isometrical detail view of a sad-iron provided with my improvements, the holder thereof being raised to its upper position and clasped to the handle of the sad-iron, thereby leaving the latter ready for use. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, showing the sadiron supported by the holder and out of use. The holder is shown in the latter view in central longitudinal section, the dotted lines indicating the position occupied by such holder before the sad-iron had descended into contact therewith. Fig. 3 is a section at the dotted line 3 in Fig. 1 of parts there shown.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
A is a sad-iron provided with a suitable handle A', which is here shown to be of the detachable variety.
B is a clip secured, by means of the pintle B, to the handle A and serving as a bearing whereto to pivot the holder, to be next here inafter described.
y C is a sad-iron holder consisting of a supits central portion C and on its upper surface pivoted, through the upwardly extending member C, to the bearing l-l on the sad.-iron, so as to be capable of being swung down into and up out of engagement with the ironing-` face of such sad-iron.
D is a clasp secured to the member C and adapted to bestride the sad-iron handle A', and thereby lock the sad-iron holder in the position shown in Fig. 1-its position when such iron is in use.
Whenever the operator wishes to set the sad-iron down, the back of the thumb of the hand grasping the sad-iron handle should be pressed against the part C, thereby disengaging the clasp D from the handle A, and thereupon the holder will swing downward, through the operation of gravity, to the position indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 9', and the weight of the iron as soon as it is released by the operator pressing' upon the mat C thereof will result in the holder and iron assuming the po-` sitions shown in Fig. 2, where the iron is at rest on its holder.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a sad-iron holder, in combination, a bearing on a sad-.iron whereto to pivot the holder proper, a two-meinbered device substantially right angular in form, one member serv-ingas a support for a sad-iron and hav` ing the central portion, as C2 thereof, of increased thickness on :its upper surface, and the other member extending from its fellow member to and being pivoted, by its free end, to the bearing on the sad-iron, substantially as described.
2. In a sad-iron holder, `in combination, a clip secured, by means of a pint-le, tothe handle of a sad-iron and serving as a bearing whereto to pivot the holder proper, a two-membered device substantially right angular in form, one member serving as a support for a sadiron, while the latter is not in use, and the other member extending from its fellow member to and being pivoted by its free end, to said clippintle, substantially as described.
3. In a sad-iron holder, in combination, a clip secured to the handle of a sad-iron and servingas, abearing to which to pivot theholder while such sad-iron is in use, substantially as IO proper, a two-membered device substantially described.
right angular in form, one member serving as In testimony Whereoflhave signed my name a support for a sad-iron, While the latter is to this Speeieation in the presence of tWo subnot in use, and the other member extendingl scribing Witnesses.
from its fellow member to and being pivoted, MARTIN A. TOLIN.
by its free end, to a bearing on the clip, and WVitnesses:
a clasp, fast to Said two-membered device, for Lno B. SALLOWS,
locking the holder to the sad-iron handle, i NELLIE ToLIN. I
