REUBEN E. ALTOONIAN, or new YORK, n. Y.
COMBINED WRITING-SHEET AND ENVELOP.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept, 30, 1919.
Application filed April 9, 1918. Serial No. 227,542.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, REUBEN E. ALTOON IAN, a citizen of the United States,.and a resident of New York city, borough of Man- .hattan, in the county and State of New vide a combined sheet and envelop which may be conveniently folded and sealed.
Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following specification in which the preferred form of my invention is described. v
In the drawings similar reference charaete'rs refer to similar parts in all the views, in which Figure 1 is a plan view illustrating my invention;
Figs. 2, 3 and 4 are perspective views illustrating the manner in which the combined letter sheet and envelop is folded;
Fig. 5 is a plan view showing the'same in folded position; and
Fig. 6 is an enlarged transverse sectional View of Fig. 5.
By referring to the drawings, it will be seen that the letter sheet A is preferably oblong and has a margin B at both sides and ends, which is separated from the body of the letter sheet A by perforations C. The margin B at one end of the letter sheet A is coated with an adhesive D, there being indicated on the sheet A, adjacent the said end, a square or inclosure E in which the address of the-se'ndee may be written. At the other end of the letter sheet A, there is a cut-out portion F, through which the address written in the square or inclosure E will be exhibited when the letter sheet A is folded on the transverse line G. To the right of the cut-out portion F, there is a space H for the letterhead, and to the right of the square or inclosure E, there is a space I for the signature. Extending beyond the ,margin B above the transverse line Gr, there is a flap J coated with adhesive.
When a letter is written between the cutout portion F and the square or inclosure E, and the address of the letter is Written in the square or inclosure E, the letter sheet A is folded on the transverse line G and the margins B at the ends of the letter sheet are sealed together by means of the adhesi ve D. Fig.' 2 shows the letter sheet in the process of being folded, at the transverse line G. When the letter sheet has been folded, as described, it is again folded on the longitudinal line K, as illustrated in Fig. 3, and when this has been done the adhesive flap J is secured to the margin B at B. The sealed letter will then appear as illustrated in Fig. 5.
It will be'understood that with the combined sheet and envelop which has been described, the address of the addressee will be preserved on the face of the letter without infringing on the space which is usually used in which to write the letter. It will also be understood that the letter may be thoroughly sealed in the manner which has been described, and that it may be readily opened by tearing ofi" the'margins B at the perforations C.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure, by Letters Patent: 7
A combined letter sheet and envelop adapted to be folded transversely and longitudinally having a margin at its four sides separated from the body of the letter sheet by perforations, the margin at one end of the letter sheet being provided with an adhesive, a flap provlded with an adhesive extending beyond the margin at one side of *the letter sheet and between the transverse fold and the other end of the. letter sheet, the letter sheet having at oneend an opening at one side and a letter head at the other side, and at its other end at the first mentioned side an inclosed space for the address and at the second mentioned side a space for signin the letter.
