UNITED STATES UMBEBITG DELVAY, OF ASTORIA, NE'VV YORK.
COMBINATION ENVELOPE AND XVRITING PAPER.
Application filed November 6, 1925.
This invention relates to a combination envelope and writing paper, and has for an object the provision of a novel'means of construction for sealing purposes, constructed from a single integral sheet blank, whereby when sent through the mails, supplies a complete record of post-ofice cancellation, address, and contents thereof.
In the accompanying drawings F 1 shows a rear view of the device in folded condition.
Fig. 2 shows an enlarged vertical transverse sectional view on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Fig. 3 shows a developed plan view.
Fig. 4 shows a partly developed and partly folded view.
Fig. 5 shows a vertical transverse sectional view on the line 5 5,.of Figure 1.
'The article embodying the present inven tion is formed from a single integral sheet blanlr'and the body portion of this blank, indicated by the numeral 10, constitutes the writing space upon which the desired matter is written. At one end the body 10 is pro-- vided with a tongue 11. The other end of the body 10 is provided with a central extension 12 integral therewith and adjacent on both sides of 12 are flaps 13 containing cutouts 14. The portion remote from the body portion 10 is indicated by the numeral 15, and integral on three sides are the flaps 16. 17, and 18.
The article may be manufactured from all. different kinds of paper and any other material suitable for writing, folding and mailing.
Both sides of the body part lOniay be folded horizontally as indicated 'by horizontal dot and dash lines 10. Then the body may be folded-vertically as indicated by verti al dot and dash lines 10". Flaps 13 are then folded down horizontally as indicated, and the tongue slipped through the cutouts 14 and sealed with glue, sealing wax, or other adhesive material, placed on the tongue. Figure 4 shows the device in this condition. It is readily seen that a message written on the body 10 will be sealed within the device.
Serial No. 67,241.
To complete the sealing, two vertical foldings are necessary to place body 10 on portion 15, and then flaps 16, 17, and 18 are folded down, and the sealing applied. In Figure 1 two stamps 19 are shown to accomplish the sealing, but sealing wax or glue, etc. on the flaps may be used instead. The front side may now be addressed and the device is ready for mailing.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. A device of the class described comprising an end rectangular centerpiece with flaps on the two large edges and on one small edge, the other small edge being integral with the center rectangle with flaps on the two large edges and the remote small edge integral with another larger end rectangle having its far edge thereof provided with a centrally positioned integral tongue, and cutouts in flaps of said center rectangle to sealingly engage said tongue.
2. A blank for a device of the character described comprising a single substantially rectangular sheet having three central integral rectangles, one end being provided with three integral flaps, the center one with two integral flaps with cutouts therein, and the other end one being of larger size and provided centrally on the remote side with an integral tongue.
3. A device of the class described, a single blank comprising a single substantially rectangular sheet having three central integral rectangles, one end one being provided with three integral flaps, the center one with two integral flaps with cutouts therein, and the other end one being of larger size and provided centrally on the remote side with an integral tongue, whereby matter may be written on the largest rectangle, said rectangle folded and sealed by means of the cutouts in the flaps of the center rectangle engaging with the tongue, and further folded, and sealed by the flaps of the first rectangle.
In testimony whereof I have afiixed my signature.
UMBERLIO DELVAY.
