Definitions
- This invention relates to banking envelopes and particularly to an envelope for forwarding to depositors their cancelled checks and bank statement.
- An object of the present invention is to provide means to position the statement centrally of the envelope so that the address thereon may be located properly relative to a window provided in the front panel of the envelope.
- Another object of importance is that the same positioning means for the statement will also hold the cancelled checks toward the upper edge of the envelope so that a relatively level surface may be provided for the stamp cancellation or postage meter impression.
- FIG. 1 is a plan view of the blank from which the envelope of the present invention is formed
- FIG. 2 is a rear view of the envelope after folding, parts being broken away to more clearly show the position of the bank statement and checks therein;
- FIG. 3 is a front view of the envelope shown in FIG. 2 also broken away to show the enclosures positioned and retained therein.
- the envelope blank is of conventional form and has a front panel 12 and a back panel 14.
- Side flaps 16 extending from opposite ends of the front panel 12 are provided with strips of gumming 18 by means of which, after folding, may be secured to the opposite edges of the back panel 14.

- the front panel 12 is also provided with a window 24 preferably and as shown having a transparent sheet 26- extending over the area of the window opening 24.
- At spaced apart positions on the inside surface of the front panel '12 are areas of conventional or self-sealing gumming 28.
- the gummed areas secure the surface of the back to the front panel at these areas.
- the spacing apart of the areas 28 is such that the bank statement 30 may fit between their inner edges. As folded the statement extends the full height of the envelope. By these gummed areas 28 on opposite sides of the statement 30, the statement cannot be laterally dislocated and is. also properly positioned relative to the "ice Z window opening 24. The address on the statement is therefore always retained in view.
- the checks 32 therefore, are maintained adjacent the upper edge of the envelope and are positioned directly under the area occupied by the postage stamp or postage meter impression.

Description
Allg- 22, 1961 H. M. WHITMAN 2,997,225
BANKING ENvELoPE Filed Oct. 22, 1959 INVENTOR. HM. WHITMAN lL- I United States Patent 2,997,225 BANKING ENVELOPE Harlan M. Whitman, 5605 Woodlawn Blvd., Minneapolis 17, Minn. Filed Oct. 22, 1959, Ser. No. 848,034 4 Claims. (Cl. 229-71) This invention relates to banking envelopes and particularly to an envelope for forwarding to depositors their cancelled checks and bank statement.
An object of the present invention is to provide means to position the statement centrally of the envelope so that the address thereon may be located properly relative to a window provided in the front panel of the envelope.
Another object of importance is that the same positioning means for the statement will also hold the cancelled checks toward the upper edge of the envelope so that a relatively level surface may be provided for the stamp cancellation or postage meter impression.
With the above and other objects in View, the invention may include the features of construction set forth in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
In the accompanying drawing annexed hereto and forming a part of this specification, I have shown the invention in a banking envelope for a particular form of depositors statement and checks, but it will be understood that the invention can be embodied in envelopes for statements and checks of other forms and that the drawing is not to be construed as limiting the scope of the invention, the claims appended to this specification being relied upon for that purpose.
In the drawing:
FIG. 1 is a plan view of the blank from which the envelope of the present invention is formed;
FIG. 2 is a rear view of the envelope after folding, parts being broken away to more clearly show the position of the bank statement and checks therein; and
FIG. 3 is a front view of the envelope shown in FIG. 2 also broken away to show the enclosures positioned and retained therein.
In the above mentioned drawing, there has been shown but one embodiment of the invention which is now deemed preferable, but it is to be understood that changes and modifications may be made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring more in detail to the figures of the drawing it will be seen that the envelope blank is of conventional form and has a front panel 12 and a back panel 14. Side flaps 16 extending from opposite ends of the front panel 12 are provided with strips of gumming 18 by means of which, after folding, may be secured to the opposite edges of the back panel 14.
A sealing flap 20 extends from a side edge of the front panel 12 and has the usual continuous strip of gumming 22 along its edges. The front panel 12 is also provided with a window 24 preferably and as shown having a transparent sheet 26- extending over the area of the window opening 24.
At spaced apart positions on the inside surface of the front panel '12 are areas of conventional or self-sealing gumming 28. When the back panel 14 is folded against the front panel 12, the gummed areas secure the surface of the back to the front panel at these areas.
The spacing apart of the areas 28 is such that the bank statement 30 may fit between their inner edges. As folded the statement extends the full height of the envelope. By these gummed areas 28 on opposite sides of the statement 30, the statement cannot be laterally dislocated and is. also properly positioned relative to the "ice Z window opening 24. The address on the statement is therefore always retained in view.
I claim \as my invention:
1. A banking envelope comprising a front panel having a window therein, a back panel, side flaps and a sealing flap, said side flaps being gummed to the rear panel, and spaced positioning means sealing portions of said front and back panels together to support elongated enclosed articles above said positioning means, said means also positioning an enclosed member extending substantially the full height of the envelope between the adjacent portion of said means.
2. A banking envelope comprising a front panel having a window therein, a back panel, side flaps and a sealing flap, said side flaps being gummed to the rear panel, and spaced positioning means sealing portions of said front and back panels together adjacent the lower edge of said envelope to support elongated enclosed articles above said positioning means, said means also positioning an enclosed member extending substantially the full height of the envelope between the adjacent portions of said means.
3. A banking envelope comprising a front panel having a window therein, a back panel, side flaps and a sealing flap, said side flaps being gummed to the rear panel, and spaced positioning means symmetrically positioned longitudinally of said envelope on opposite sides of the center, said positioning means sealing portions of said front and back panels together to support elongated enclosed articles above said positioning means, said means also positioning an enclosed member extending substantially the full height of the envelope between the adjacent port-ions of said means.
4. A banking envelope comprising a front panel having a window therein, a back panel, side aps and a sealing flap, said side aps being gummed to the rear panel, and spaced positioning means comprising small areas of gumming symmetrically positioned longitudinally of said envelope on opposite sides of the center, said positioning means sealing portions of said front and back panels together adjacent the lower edge of said envelope to support elongated enclosed articles above said positioning means, said means also positioning an enclosed member extending substantially the full height of the envelope between the adjacent portions of said means.
