PINK C. RABB, OF STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA.
ENVELOPE.
Application filed February 2, 1918, Serial No. 215,119, Renewed July $31922. Serial No. 577,980.
1 0 all uv/1.0m it may concern:
lie it known that I, PINK C. BABE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stockton, in the county of San Joaquin and State of California, have invented new and setul improvements in Envelopes. of which. the following; is a specification.
This invention relates to envelopes the object in view being to provide an envelope having means whereby it may be easily and quickly opened to enable the contents thereof to be removed.
VJith the above and other objects in. view, the invention consists in the novel coi'istruction. combination and arrangement oi parts, as herein described, illustrated and claimed.
in the accompanying drawing,
Figure l is a :iuce view or" the ei'iivelope showing the opening means therefor.
Figure 2 an edge view ot the envelope showing the locationoi the opening strip and the primarily open corner portions of the envelope edge occupied by the opening; device.
The envelope designated at i, may be i'i'iazle 0t any suitable material, such as paper, and
1e end, bottom and sealing flaps may he of v usual or preferred shape. However. in the preferred embodiment of this invention, one oi the end flaps designated at E2 is made shorter than the other end flap 3 and terminates at the points l so as to leave open ings 5 of approximately a halt or tl11(;- fourths of an inch in length.
Posted under and Within the told of the end flap 2 is an envelope opener consisting of a short section 0t string 6. one end 7 of which le'tt projecting but not of suilicient length to reach to the extreme corner 8 of theenvelope. Therefore, the projecting end grasped between the thumb and tore finger oil the other hand and pulled sharply away ttroin the body of the envelope. As a result,
the tolded portion of the short end flap 2 severed between the primarily opened portions 5 resulting in a complete opening oi the end of the envelope to which the string; (5 was previously attached.
ll claim:
in envelope comprising a sheet folded longitudinally to define front and back panels. a sealing iiap formed at one longi tudinal edge of the tront panel and toldable onto the back panel. an end closure flap formed on one end oi the front panel and sealed onto the hack of the back panel, and a flap formed on the other end of the front panel and cut back from the corners thereof whereby to leave tree spaces between the corners of the last named flop and the corners of the :tront panel, and a flexible. opening string pasted Within and extending throughout the length of the fold ot' said last named flap and having a projecting free end portion terminating short of the adjacent corner of the envelope, said last named flap being secured against the hack of the back panel.
In testimony whereof I affix. niy signature.
PINK C. BABE.
